Can Do Farm’s Mario Ley and Dionne Laybourne are Yukon’s Farm Family of the Year for 2020 November 9, 2020 Meet Yukon’s 2020 Farm Family of the Year, Mario Ley and Dionne Laybourne of Can Do Farm. The Government of Yukon installs two more fast-charging stations in Marsh Lake and Haines Junction. We support the agriculture industry through land development, research, extension services and funding programs. We lead efforts to address environmental issues at Yukon’s abandoned mines. This includes managing ongoing site operations (known as care and maintenance) and developing and implementing long-term remediation plans for the protection of human health and the environment. We communicate the programs and activities of Energy, Mines and Resources to the public. We provide field services and expertise for clients of the Department of Energy, Mines and Resources. Activities range from inspections, to issuing timber and firewood permits to emergency response. We develop Yukon energy policy and provide Yukoners with energy programs, expertise and assistance. We provide information and research help related to Yukon’s natural resources, environment and history. The Forest Management Branch oversees the development and management of Yukon's forest resources. This includes issuing permits and licensing; developing timber harvest plans; and carrying out planning and research on forest resources and health. We are responsible for the sale, lease and licensing of public land and permitting its temporary use. We collaborate with First Nations, Yukon communities and other government agencies to manage land use in a sustainable and orderly way. We also work with First Nations, Yukon communities and interested parties on regional land use planning. We are responsible for the disposition and administration of mineral resources within Yukon. We are responsible for regulating the exploration and responsible development of Yukon’s oil and gas resources. We issue oil and gas rights, administer royalty revenues and licenses, and regulate industry activities. We develop solutions with First Nations and industry that enable the responsible management of Yukon's resources. Our information adds to Yukon’s geoscience knowledge base. The information supports geoscience-related policy and investment decisions in the territory.
