DNA services are performed by Neogen's GeneSeek Operations lab, the world's largest animal genetic testing laboratory.

Parentage Testing: An updated parentage panel is now included as part of the Basic CFA Panel Test processed on each sample that arrives at the laboratory. This new panel examines 150 markers which will establish a unique “fingerprint” for your cat. The markers of parents and offspring can be compared to confirm pedigree relationships between queen, sire and offspring. Parentage tables can be ordered during the online ordering process.

Spinal Muscular Atrophy: A test is now available for Spinal Muscular Atrophy. This test has been created separately from the Basic CFA Panel Test due to the nature of the genetic mutation. The cost of this test is $15.00 and can be ordered during the online ordering process.

Clients of CatDNAtest.org have the unique opportunity to have their cat DNA tested at prices they can easily afford. DNA tests can be easily ordered online.

Once DNA samples have been submitted, tests will be run and you will receive a DNA certificate of the results via email. Results are typically available within 30 days of sample submission. Your cat's test results will become confidential information distributed to the owner only. DNA Test Order Process

DNA tests may be ordered online. Complete the information form for the cat whose DNA you will be submitting, then print the form to include with your submission sample and payment.

DNA Collection

Collection of DNA for testing is a relatively simple process. All feline submissions can easily be obtained using buccal (cheek) swabs. Cats can be tested at any age. Simply open the cat's mouth and rub the inside of the cheek vigorously with the cotton swab to collect the cheek cells, not just saliva. Blood samples collected by a veterinarian are also accepted in EDTA (purple top) tubes. A minimum of 1mL of blood is needed for testing.
