Real-Time Systems The Real-Time Systems Group works on areasrelated to Hard Real-Time systems, whoseproper operation depends not only on the correctness ofthe results but also their timeliness. Our areas ofinterest include architectural and operating system support forhard real-time systems, scheduling mechanisms for multi-taskingenvironments under dynamic conditions, and the composable designof adaptable software systems that integrate hard real-time withfault-tolerance, including issues relating to the design-timeand run-time assurance of their correctness, timeliness,predictability and reliability properties.Real-Time DatabaseSystems Our research focuses on integrating active, real-time, temporal andmultimedia databases for crisis management in Massive Digital DataSystems (MDDS).Database SystemsWe are interested in transaction processing, both in extendingtransactional semantics to novel applications domains and enhancingthe quality in traditional domains.We investigate applying transaction concepts and semantics to enhancethe performance and functionality of novel, collaborative, open-endedapplications, such as workflows and information retrieval.In novel as well as traditional transactional domains, we are studyingthe essential ingredients of transaction systems (in particular, thoseof recovery support) and their composition and interaction.
