The crisis within Alabama’s hospitals is intensifying as healthcare workers treat an ever-growing number of COVID-19 patients without having intensive care unit beds to put them in. Alabama ran out of designated ICU beds on Tuesday, dipping into negative status as 11 people waited for an open spot. On Wednesday, that number grew to 29. Central Alabama Community College says it will use federal funds for student debt forgiveness to pave the way for students to continue their education. CACC says it will use special institutional funding received from the U.S. Department of Education’s Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds (HEERF) from The American Rescue Plan (ARP) to forgive the balances of 102 students totaling $83,687.27. Montgomery Public schools welcome students back to school Monday. It’s the first day of class for yet another year impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and there are many things parents need to know.
