In his introductory statements he makes very clear that what the text speaks to is practical gospel commands unto fruit bearing for the already born-again child of grace. Not how one gets saved or how a person stays that way. This is a command of abiding in the vine, as a spiritually mature believer, and the necessity to bear much fruit.But is is presented through the God ordained means of preaching. Brother Darity was not a conversational- lecture style teacher. He most always expressed his need of the Lord, and if you heard him over the course of time you would understand him, when he said, without the Lord I can do nothing. But he must preach with the gifted voice God gave him. And gifted he was in the art of preaching. He excelled in using his voice and mannerisms to keep the attention of his hearers. He used personal illustrations to convey truths on a personal level. And most importantly, he preached strong doctrinal truths by way of implication, even while his subject was on a topic like fruit bearing.This is very important, to drive home strong doctrinal points that clarify what the Scripture teach, and which Old School Baptist preachers must be known for. You will not hear a sermon that can be heard from any other pulpit in America on any given Sunday. There is no generic message in this sermon. But a distinguishing sound that rightly divides the word of truth.
