Description:

The National Asian Pacific American Women's Forum was founded 25 years ago by Asian American and Pacific Islander women who recognized the need for an organization that would amplify our stories and experiences. More about our history → Today, we’re building collective power with AAPI women and girls to gain full agency over our lives, our families, and our communities. Sign up for email updates and join our movement! Every person should be able to get affordable health care no matter how long they have been in the U.S. or the status they have been granted. But because of unnecessary policy barriers, immigrants have to navigate a complicated patchwork of care that often forces them to pay out-of-pocket. The HEAL for Immigrant Families Act will help immigrants get the health care they need by removing the xenophobic restrictions that prevent them from being insured and disproportionately harm Black, Latinx, Asian, Pacific Islander, and other immigrants of color. Learn more and take action→ Conversations on Race GenderAnnouncing Conversations: a virtual speaker series launched for Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month that explores the way race and gender intersect to impact the lives of AAPI people, from activists to authors. Upcoming on June 23 - A conversation with Asian American Writers' Workshop about creating spaces for AAPI voicesIn collaboration with The Asian American Writers' Workshop (AAWW), we are presenting a conversation about the importance of radical storytelling with panelists who are redefining what Asian diasporic literature looks like today. Read more information about Conversations and other upcoming events here.Where to Watch Study: Medication Abortion Among AANHPIsAlmost no research to date has examined the abortion needs of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders. We're currently recruiting Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders between the ages of 18 and 49 who were assigned female or intersex at birth for focus group discussions or in-depth interviews as part of a research study on attitudes and knowledge about medication abortion. Individuals will receive a $50 gift card for participation. Read more details and eligibility information here.We have 7 active chapters located across the country — get connected today! The National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum is a membership organization that develops leaders for our fight for policy and cultural change. In this moment of community and heightened visibility for Asian American and Pacific Islander women, it is more important than ever that we are all able to grow as leaders without financial barriers. That’s why we reduced our membership fee from $40 to $0.01. Join our national network of NAPAWF members to make sure our stories are heard and our needs aren’t ignored. Two months after a white man killed six Asian women in Atlanta, the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum (NAPAWF) and 10 other organizations have released a reproductive justice agenda aimed at providing “a roadmap for leaders and decision makers” on future investments in AAPI women. With the documented rise in violence against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, fueled at least in part by racist rhetoric blaming Chinese people for the COVID-19 pandemic, Huska is not alone in feeling race-based trauma. Recent polling found that one-third of Asian adults in the U.S. fear physical attacks and threats, and more than half the Asian American women interviewed in a separate poll conducted by National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum, reported experiencing incidents of hate in the past two years. Trump’s encouragement of white supremacy and his strident anti-China rhetoric proved a toxic combination for Asian Americans. A new study is sparking discussion and awareness of the disproportionate experiences Asian American women are facing. ‘This could have been me’ — The six victims of Asian descent in the Atlanta-area mass shooting represented a diverse community. Their deaths have united many Asian American women. After the heartbreak of the deadly March shooting in Atlanta that took the lives of six Asian American women, our lived experiences were thrust into the spotlight. What used to be unseen by many—the intersections of our identities, the impact of racism, sexism, and hypersexualization on our lives—has become more visible. “Are you an Asian American who believes that working hard makes you more worthy and deserving of attention, praise and love from others? I, too, used to believe that being a workaholic was a virtue. Nobody ever said those exact words to me; I came to that conclusion based on what I experienced growing up as part of a Taiwanese family.” Nearly four out of five Asian American women say that anti-Asian racism has affected their lives – for many, the impact has been significant. “We call on Congress to reflect the will of the president, AAPI communities, and people across the country by passing these important reproductive health funding into law.” Over 6,600 targeted instances of anti-Asian hate incidents reported by the AAPI community between March 2020 and March 2021 Today we call on Congress to pass the HEAL for Immigrant Families Act. This critical legislation — introduced this morning by Reps. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA-7) and Nanette Barragán (D-CA-44), and Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) — restores and expands health care coverage for immigrants in the United States, who have been denied access to federal health programs despite paying federal taxes. This brief is a follow-up to the brief we filed in 2019, asking that the court uphold the lower court's decision in favor of Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, and explains the harm to women of color, who make up a disproportionate number of Medicaid beneficiaries, that would result from South Carolina's actions. The experiences of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) women have gone unacknowledged and unaddressed by mainstream U.S. culture throughout our history in this country. Our intersecting identities and the impact of racism, sexism, and hypersexualization have become more visible as AAPI women have refused to be silent. We have marched; we have forged bonds of solidarity; and we are now moving forward collectively to create a safer, more just world for ourselves and our communities. The National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum (NAPAWF) and 10 other organizations serving AAPI women came together to create Visibility, Voice, Vision: Asian American and Pacific Islander Reproductive Justice Agenda. Mental health is a significant facet of an individual’s wellbeing. Maintaining mental health is crucial to AAPIs’ ability to live with dignity. Furthermore, it is crucial to recognize the cultural, legal, and economic barriers that silence AAPI women and prevent them from receiving proper mental health care.
