How can one read the Old Testament, as well as the New Testament, as an experience of an encounter of cultures? The course explores various challenges that arise from the Chinese cultural perspective in the reading of Scriptures: objective challenges, the morality of some great biblical protagonists, divine violence in some biblical narratives and contradictory attitudes. As part of our Theology in an Asian Language Series, Loyola School of Theology and the Theology and Ministry Program will offer a Biblical Theology course in Mandarin Chinese entitled, "Reading the Scriptures from a Chinese Perspective", with Fr. Luigino Marchioron, S.X., S.T.D., with classes on Mondays, 2:00 - 4:40 pm. The Theology and Ministry Program of the School of Humanities (LST) will offer intensive Saturday classes for our current MA in Theological Studies program with fields of specialization in Systematic Theology and Biblical Theology effective in the First Semester of Academic Year 2019-2020 (August to December Term). Deadline for submission of application documents of Filipino applicants is on 15 May 2019. For International students, the deadline is on 31 March 2019. These are submitted to the Office of the Associate Dean for Graduate Programs, Ground Floor, Kostka Hall, Loyola Schools. The 100 years of persecution under the feudal dynasty in Korea record more than one thousand identified martyrs - not counting the numerous anonymous victims - since the foundation of Roman Catholic Christianity in Korea in 1784. As part of our Theology in an Asian Language Series, Loyola School of Theology and the Theology and Ministry Program honor the memory of these Asian martyrs by offering a course in the Korean language this Second Semester, School Year 2018-2019 entitled, The Martyrs of Korea: A Historical Rethinking of their Spirituality 한국의 순교자들 : 역사와 영성 with Visiting Professor, Fr. Joseph Kang Suk-Jin, B.M.C., Ph.D... As part of our Theology in an Asian Language Series, LST will offer a Spirituality Course in Bahasa Indonesia this School Year 2018-2019 in the First Semester, with Jesuit Visiting Professor Fr. Agustinus Priyono Marwan SJ: Dinamika Panggilan Kristiani dan Komitmen Religius-Imami or Dynamics of a Christian Vocation, Priestly and Religious Commitment. Classes will be held on Thursdays, 2:00 to 4:40 pm from August 30 to December 6, 2018. In the succeeding semesters, LST will also offer theology courses in other Asian languages in order to provide opportunities for our bigger international groups to theologize at LST in the Asian context and in their own Asian language. Challenged by the growing ecological crisis and impelled by Pope Francis' call for ecological conversion, Loyola School of Theology is now offering a Certificate in Integral Ecology. The program addresses the urgent environmental issues and explores alternative perspectives and lines of action. Following the insights of Pope Francis' Encyclical Laudato Si', this program uses the lenses of Biblical Theology, Systematic Theology, Moral Theology and Interreligious Spirituality to reflect on the political, cultural, economic and scientific aspects of the damage we have inflicted on our common home. This School Year 2017-2018 in the Second Semester, we ll begin our "Theology in an Asian Language Series" by offering a Biblical Theology course in Vietnamese with Fr. Joseph Nguyễn Công Đoan SJ: ĐỌC CÁC SÁCH PHÚC ÂM NHƯ MỘT KINH SƯ CÓ HIỂU BIẾT VỀ NƯỚC TRỜI or Reading the Gospels Like a Scribe Instructed in the Kingdom of Heaven. In the succeeding semesters, we will also offer theology courses in other Asian languages in order to provide opportunities for our bigger international groups to theologize at LST in the Asian context and in their own Asian language. LST's Asian Theological Program (ATP) consists primarily of providing a theological and pastoral formation that is more Asian in content, methodology, and ethos through courses that have an explicit Asian content, courses that discuss theological issues common to Asian contexts, tools for critical understanding of our cultural and linguistic contexts, and courses that highlight the importance of context in understanding Christian doctrine and practice. LST's Philosophy Program. The Certificate in Pre-Theology Studies is a two-year non-degree program comprising mostly of philosophy, but also basic theology and language courses required for admission to the graduate-level first cycle ecclesiastical degree program, the Baccalaureate in Sacred Theology (STB). The curriculum is grounded on the principle that "œreason, when open to the mystery of God and directed to Him, allows a solid acceptance of Revelation, seeks a deeper understanding of its contents, and offers instruments and language for its proclamation to the world"€ (Ratio Fundamentalis Institutionis Sacerdotalis 2016, n. 116).
