Online Survey of International Economics Course This Survey Course provides a one-semester introduction to international trade and international finance issues at an intermediate level. It is the latest version of the course I have taught at GW for the past several decades. Each of the 14 modules includes a classroom lecture video, links to associated online readings, problems and answer keys, and supplementary related readings. Presentation slides for each lecture are currently being added. Instructors are welcome to use this material freely in their own courses. Students can self-study or use this to supplement their understanding of international economic issues. The website distinguishes self-interested behavior from greedy behavior and shows why greed results in inefficient outcomes. Soon, the site will unveil an online full-semester Principles of Microeconomics course with a new approach that includes a heavy emphasis of the role of ethics in economics. Books A Moderate Compromise: Economic Policy Choice in an Era of Globalization - by Steve Suranovic (Palgrave McMillan, 2010) This book offers an approach to globalization policy choice that applies three simple principles to determine actions and argues that these principles are consistent with people's fundamental concerns across the ideological spectrum. The book motivates the need for this mechanism by arguing that traditional policy choice methods (e.g. cost benefit analysis et. al.) are more likely to spark divisiveness than to result in a large consensus of support.
