BEAMLINE FOR SCHOOLS (BL4S)

International competition for high school students from all around the world organised by CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, in Geneva, Switzerland

The competition invites teams of high-school students to propose a scientific experiment that they want to perform at a particle accelerator. The two teams that prepare the best proposals will win a trip to a particle accelerator facility to perform their experiments at a fully-equipped beamline. Because of the maintenance of CERN's accelerators since the end of 2018, the winning experiments in 2021 will run at DESY in Hamburg, Germany. There are additional prizes for a shortlist of teams and certificates for all participants. Learn more about BL4S and how to apply and get inspired by our latest promotional video:

Through BL4S, CERN and DESY offer a great opportunity for students to learn, make new discoveries and apply their knowledge into new settings. Get inspired by our videos and previous winners, join our BL4S Facebook group and stay tuned for news!

The "EXTRA team" from Italy and the "Teomiztli (Puma Cósmico)" from Mexico arrived at DESY on September 8 to work on their experiments for two weeks.

The full list of teams that reached the final stage of the evaluation process and have been awarded with other prizes is available here.

Congratulations to all the participants in Beamline for Schools 2021!
