Developing Leaders in Academic MedicineThe Physician Scientist Training Program (PSTP), established in 2007, is a unique five-year training program for medical students who wish to become successful physician-scientists. We are interested in fostering an environment where our students learn the skills necessary to become future pioneers in research—taking ownership of their projects and seeking external sources of funding to help facilitate the development of their ideas. PSTP enriches the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine curriculum with an additional year of basic or translational research training. Upon graduating, PSTP students will have acquired the knowledge, skills, and experience to begin careers in some of the most exciting areas of academic medicine.
