COVID-19 – How the UK’s Nuclear Industry is RespondingThe nuclear industry is working closely with Government to maintain the health and safety of its workforce and operations, and to ensure energy demands will always be met in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. The NIA will continue to post regular updates here on the industry’s response to the evolving situation.The Nuclear Industry Association (NIA) is the trade association for the civil nuclear industry in the UK. It represents more than 250 companies across the UK’s nuclear supply chain. The diversity of NIA membership enables effective and constructive industry-wide interaction. NIA member companies have significant expertise in nuclear decommissioning and clean-up, with 17 nuclear sites in the UK currently being managed through the process. We believe nuclear energy is essential to meet the UK’s clean energy needs. Together with renewables and energy efficiency, nuclear can reduce carbon emissions. As part of a diversified energy mix, nuclear-generated energy provides safe and reliable electricity for UK homes, hospitals, schools and industries. News The NIA Responds to the Climate Assembly UK Report 10 September 2020 Responding to the Climate Assembly UK Report, Tom Greatrex, Chief Executive of the Nuclear Industry Association, says: “People who took part in the Citizens Assembly want to see real action to meet Net Zero – more electric vehicles, decarbonising home heating, and stopping burning fossil fuels…” Three steps to prepare for the end of the transition period 09 September 2020 The UK has left the EU and will leave the Single Market and Customs Union at the end of the year. Businesses should take action now to start preparing for new trading rules which will come into effect from January 2021. UKAEA supply chain survey results 09 September 2020 The UKAEA recently launched a survey in order to gain an insight into the effects of Covid-19 on businesses in various work sectors across the nuclear industry. Martin O’ Neill – An Appreciation 09 September 2020 The former Chairman of the Nuclear Industry Association, Martin O’ Neill, Lord O’Neill of Clackmannan, sadly passed away at the end of August of pancreatic cancer. Our condolences and sympathies go to his wife Elaine, adult sons Michael and Peter and their young families.
