The Secatogue tribe – Secatogue meaning the black or dark colored land - occupied all of the area of what is now the Town of Islip, on Long Island, New York. The Secatogue’s principal villages were in what is now West Islip (Secatogue), Bay Shore (Penataquit) and Oakdale (Connetquot.) The local farm of the Willets in Islip is called Secatogue Neck, and is said to have been the principal settlement and residence of Winnequaheagh, the Chief of Connetquot in 1683.
