Blue Velvet (The Deluxe Edition): Blue Velvet is David Lynchs unforgettable 1986 masterwork, starring Kyle MacLachlan as a college student whose discovery of a severed ear leads him into a nightmarish world of crime and sexual perversion. Isabella Rossellini, as a tormented lounge singer, and Dennis Hopper, as an emotional gas-sniffing psychopath, are among the brilliant cast.
Blue Velvet was Lynchs first collaboration with his longtime composer and musical partner, Angelo Badalamenti (their fame later to explode with Twin Peaks). Badalamenti has always been able to channel Lynchs unique vision, and it was evident upon their first collaboration: a dark, moody yet melodic score, at turns agitated and violent, soaring with sublime beauty, and hanging cool with 50s-style jazz. Badalamenti also acted as musical director for the films nightclub lounge recordings (in fact, the reason why he was hired).
Varèse Sarabande released the Blue Velvet soundtrack at the time of the film, a program of songs and score retained as disc one of this 2-CD setwith the addition of the famous 1963 recording of Blue Velvet, performed by Bobby Vinton. Disc one concludes with the first LynchBadalamentiJulee Cruise collaboration, the dreamlike Mysteries of Love.
Premiering on disc two is an extended program of previously unreleased Badalamenti score: film cues, alternates and outtakes entitled Lumberton Firewood. Although Blue Velvet was scored more traditionally than later Lynch projects, the director and composer intended many tracks to be merely firewood, their term for raw orchestral sonorities to be edited and manipulated into sound design by the director.
The Deluxe Edition packaging features liner notes by Tim Greiving, incorporating new interviews with David Lynch, Angelo Badalamenti, Kyle MacLachlan and producer Fred Caruso.

For Elf, Favreau asked Debney for a score that would be timeless, and Debneys charming orchestral score channels Buddys innocent outlook as well as one of Favreaus inspirations, the Rankin/Bass Christmas television specials. From Christmas whimsy to light-hearted comedy and rousing symphonic action, Debneys Elf music is a tuneful jewel.
Elf was released by Varèse Sarabande at the time of the film. This Deluxe Edition features an expanded score program, as well as the alternate and edited tracks from the 2003 CD. JULIA brings to life the legendary cookbook author and television superstar who changed the way Americans think about food, television, and even about women. What can be more delightful than writing music for such a character as Julia? The directors Betsy and Julie were up for having fun in the score and words such as bad ass, edgy, trapped housewives preparing Spam and Pineapple dinners, sex, sensuality, and nostalgia were used to describe what they wanted from the music. So, as well as the theme of food and love, I didnt shy away from being at times bold and funny with the score. At others it needed to be full of love and yearning. The film is a rich canvas for writing a score and I loved composing its music.
Cohen and West note: This is music as fresh as salad nicoise, as tender as sole meuniere, and as rich as chocolate ganache. Rachel's luscious score hits all of the emotional notes we could have dreamed of to bring Julia's story surging to life.
Born in West Sussex, Rachel began composing at the age of 14 and read music at the University of Oxford, where she became interested in writing music for student films and theater productions. She gained experience writing music for drama in BBC and Channel 4 films, including Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit, Mike Leigh's, Four Days In July and Jim Henson's Storyteller series.

Rachel has written an opera of Saint Exupery's, The Little Prince for Houston Grand Opera as well as a musical of Little House on the Prairie. For the BBC Proms concerts, Rachel was commissioned to write The Water Diviner, a dramatic choral symphony and Earth Song, a commission for the BBC singers of a 20 minute choral piece. Rachel wrote an orchestral piece entitled Endangered performed at the World Environment Day Concert, at the National Centre for the Performing Arts, Beijing.
In 2020 Rachel released her first solo album Ask the River. Rachel is an honorary fellow of Worcester College, Oxford. She lives in London with her husband and three daughters.

Beal has since conducted The Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra in his original score for Keatons silent film THE GENERAL, The Hollywood Chamber Orchestra for the premiere of BLACKFISH live-to-picture, The Henry Mancini Institute orchestra with his score for Stephen Kings BATTLEGROUND, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra for the film score of BOSTON, as well as the Boston Pops Esplanade for the live-to-picture premiere of BOSTON.
Diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2007, Beal credits his current remission to listening and creating music, as well as healthful nutrition, cardiovascular exercise and meditation. He has been open discussing his MS, and has spoken of it publicly and to the press, as he hopes to inspire others living with this chronic and incurable condition.
Born in 1963 and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Beals grandmother was a pianist and accompanist for silent movies. An avid jazz fan, she gave him Miles Davis/Gil Evans Sketches of Spain album when he was beginning his trumpet studies. In addition to studying both classical and jazz trumpet, Jeff was a self-taught pianist and spent countless hours in the library learning music theory and composition on his own. Encouraged by conductor Kent Nagano, Jeff composed a trumpet concerto at age 17, which he performed with the Oakland Youth Symphony, as well as a number of large ensemble jazz charts that are still in publication today.
After graduation from Eastman in 1985, the Beals moved to New York City, where Jeff was signed by Island Records, releasing several jazz albums and performing with his band at The Blue Note and The Montreux Jazz Festival. In 1988, Beal was commissioned to write his first film score, the black comedy CHEAP SHOTS. After relocating to the west coast, Jeff turned his focus towards writing music for visual media initially taking smaller jobs writing industrials for then startups Pixar and Apple. The recommendation of another trumpet player, composer Mark Isham, landed him the job writing original score for the TV series NOTHING SACRED (1997-98). International recognition would come only a few short years later, with the release of the film POLLOCK, earning Jeff a nomination for Discovery of the Year by the World Soundtrack Academy, who also honored Beal with their first TV Composer Of The Year award in 2019

Disney+ announced today that The Rescue, the latest feature documentary from Academy Award-winning directors and producers E. Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, and National Geographic Documentary Films, will premiere on the service on Friday, December 3 in English-speaking territories, followed by a worldwide streaming release in most territories later in the month.
Hollywood Records also released today the original song Believe, from Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Aloe Blacc, co-written with Gary Go and Daniel Pemberton, along with the full Original Motion Picture Soundtrack from Academy Award-nominated composer Daniel Pemberton. Pemberton recently won the 2021 Critics Choice Documentary Award for Best Score for his work on the film.
The Rescue premiered to rave reviews at the 2021 Telluride Film Festival and went on to win the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival. Other audience awards won on the festival circuit include Camden Film Festival, Mill Valley Film Festival, Bend Film Festival, Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival and several others. Available everywhere now, the album features original vocal and score music written by Balfe and featured in the first three episodes of the series, which make their debut today on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. Todays soundtrack will be followed by two additional albums of music from the shows first season, with the Volume 2 soundtrack arriving on Friday, December 3 and Volume 3 on Friday, December 17.
The series musical universe was initially introduced with the release of The Wheel of Time: The First Turn (Amazon Original Series Soundtrack), a conceptual album of key themes written by Balfe for the characters, settings and ideas central to the show. His childhood home had a residential recording studio where the likes of Ozzy Osbourne and Inner Circle would record the latter of which he serendipitously worked with for his score to Bad Boys for Life.
As early as eight years-old, Lorne began writing and selling his composed jingles for advertisements, and at the age of thirteen he auditioned to be a percussionist with the Edinburgh Symphony Orchestra, becoming their youngest member, and traveled around Scotland with them professionally. It became clear to Lorne that he wanted to become a film composer and in his late teens he started writing letters to other composers in the hope of an opportunity. It was then he decided to move to the U.S., and soon his exceptional career took off.
Consistently receiving accolades for his musical compositions, he received critical acclaim for his score in the most successful film of the Mission Impossible franchise, Writer/Director Christopher McQuarries Mission Impossible: Fallout (Paramount Pictures) and has been announced as the composer of Mission: Impossible 7 8.

On diving into the music of the Colombian-set story, Miranda said, It really began with family. The notion of a family musical that gets to the complexity and interconnectedness of families was really interesting. In the beginning, we told a lot of personal storiesone of the ongoing themes was how we all cast our family members in certain roles. How do those roles change over time? How do they stay the same?
Miranda wrote and produced eight original songs for Encanto. Mike Elizondo ("96,000" from In The Heights, My Shot (Rise Up Remix) from The Hamilton Mixtape) co-produced the songs. I hope audiences come away singing these songs just like so many classic Disney movies, said Elizondo. There are so many positive messages about family and our relationships to one another. I also hope they realize how much variety there is in Colombian music. I learned so much about their rhythms and styles during the production process and I hope the audience can use the soundtrack as a gateway to discover Colombian music.
The Encanto Original Motion Picture Soundtrack features eight original songs and a full original score, plus one reprise and one end-credit version of a song from the film. The digital version of the soundtrack also includes instrumental versions of the songs.
Award-winning composer Germaine Franco is behind the original score for Encanto. Franco worked closely with filmmakers and Miranda to create a signature score that complemented the songs and story.
Commenting on the score, Franco said, Collaborating with Jared Bush, Byron Howard, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Charise Castro Smith, and Yvett Merino was a dream! We created new textures and sonorities, using traditional Colombian instruments such as tiples, bandolas, cununos, marimba de chonta, arpa llanera from Latin America mixed with orchestra. The sound of the score is infused with many Colombian rhythmic styles including bambuco, mapalé, cumbia, and joropo. The score weaves in and out of the beautiful songs of Lin-Manuel Miranda. I hope that the musical imagery of the score evokes the resonant landscape of Colombia, the tenacity of our lead character, Mirabel, the strength of family, and our shared humanity.
Encanto is directed by Jared Bush (co-director Zootopia) and Byron Howard (Zootopia, Tangled), co-directed by Charise Castro Smith (writer The Death of Eva Sofia Valdez) and produced by Yvett Merino, p.g.a., and Clark Spencer, p.g.a. Castro Smith and Bush are screenwriters on the film.

When it came to creating a tonal landscape for King Richard, composer Kris Bowers described how his collaboration with director Reinaldo Marcus Green inspired his approach to the creation of the score. Having previously worked with Rei on Monsters and Men, we developed a deep trust in our collaborative relationship. That led to Rei encouraging me to trust my instincts and to write from a personal place. And this score is in fact a very personal one for me.
Bowers added, Watching Richard and Oracene's support, love, and sacrifice for Serena and Venus not only reminded me of so many black families and black parents that put their all into their children, but it reminded me of my own parents as well. In a similar way to Richard, my dad decided before I was born that he wanted me to play piano, and my parents scoured the entire county to find me the best music educators they could. As I developed my craft, my dad was in constant communication with all of my teachers, finding out how I might be able to improve and excel, and he also sat behind me while I practiced every day from the age of 4 until the end of high school.
Due to the personal connection I felt to the film's story, Bowers continued, I decided to heavily feature piano and prepared piano. Additionally, wanting to evoke the sound and feeling of tennis, I chose to only feature strings, harp, piano, prepared piano and percussion, the prepared piano and percussion coming in during moments where we see the uniqueness of the Williams sisters in this predominantly white sport. In a way, the percussion and prepared piano is meant to mirror the grit and tenacity of these girls/this family. Lastly, to build off of the idea of how this story originated with Richard's plan, all of the thematic material are variations on the same theme. A theme we first hear with Richard, and develops into Venus's theme, a theme for the matches themselves, and so on."

Javier Navarrete (born 1956 in Teruel, Spain) is a Spanish film composer, best known for composing the score to Pan's Labyrinth (El Laberinto del Fauno, 2006). Javier built the entire soundtrack around a simple lullaby tune heard in the film. The score also got him an Academy Award nomination. Javier's first known composition was for a short movie 'Mayumea' in 1986. Navarrete also has composed the scores for Whore, Tras el cristal, Dot the i, along with various other Spanish films. His other noticeable scores include 2009's Cracks, 2012's Byzantium and the U.S productions, Mirrors, Wrath Of The Titans and Inkheart. Composer Henry Jackmans role in the film-making process was a very collaborative one. I absolutely loved working with Henry, says co-director/co-writer/executive producer Sarah Smith. He so understood the ideas and the emotions of the movie, and when you talk to him about connections in the story, he instantly sees how to weave in themes and sounds to support that. I mean really instantlyhe starts playing you new score on the spot!
Smith continues, He came in with great ideas for digital sounds he often uses, to support the B*Bot story, but I asked him for both a classic high school movie vibe and the orchestral scale and emotion of E.T. on top! Henry loves an unreasonable challenge, and he absolutely smashed it. Most important of all, as I watch scenes at the end of the film carried on a wave of his music, I just feel his heart and soul poured into the emotions of the story. Its a wonderful score.

Marvel Music/Hollywood Records has released the digital soundtrack from the Hulu Original Series Marvel's Hit-Monkey today. The album features an original score composed and produced by Daniel Rojas (Marvels M.O.D.O.K., Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, Downsizing). All 10 episodes of Marvels Hit-Monkey are now streaming on Hulu.
Commenting on his score, Rojas said, The music on Hit-Monkey is really special to me because it allowed me to blend a lot of scoring styles, from subtle electronic undertones to big orchestral action sequences, and infuse them all with a modern production twist - which is what I love to do. Theres a lot of comedy in it but the show feels very cinematic and Marvel-worthy in scope, so that gave me the chance to write pretty big and aggressive music at times. It was also a lot of fun to find ways to complement all the great songs that Kier Lehman and James Cartwright found for the show, which go from old Japanese tunes to grunge and punk-rock."
Monkeys peaceful existence in the Japanese alps is shattered by the tragic loss of his tribesetting him on a course of revenge and violence in the very world of humans that are responsible for his plight. Hes a killer of killers with a bit of a rage problem. Throughout the series, he must learn to navigate the struggle between his inherently sweet nature and the evil acts he must commit. Ubisoft announced that Far Cry 6 Vaas: Insanity Original Game Soundtrack Music by Will Bates is now available on digital platforms, accompanying the release of Vaas: Insanity, the first downloadable content episode for Far Cry 6. Pagan: Control and Joseph: Collapse the upcoming downloadable content (DLC) episodes as well as their respective soundtrack by Bates, will be released in 2022.
These three new soundtracks feature new music from Far Cry 6s newly released and forthcoming DLC content based on iconic villains from past entries in the franchise. Far Cry 6 is now available worldwide on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation5, PlayStation4, as well as Windows PC through the Ubisoft Store and the Epic Games Store. Players can also subscribe to Ubisoft+ on PC, Stadia* and Amazon Luna**.
Speaking on his work scoring for the first DLC, Vaas: Insanity, Will Bates said, Scoring for Vaas was the perfect way for me to get into the Far Cry universe. A character who is constantly showing us the definition of insanity. He went on to describe, Hes unpredictable, unstable and just asking for bold musical choices. The score to Far Cry 3 served as inspiration for some of the choices in instrumentation but taken to a more extreme and twisted place for this DLC.
Speaking about his experience working on all three DLCS, Will Bates continued, I loved getting into the twisted minds of these characters, uncovering their darkest secrets and obsessions allowed me to pick from so many musical colors. I found myself writing rich musical passages and then taking a sledgehammer to them to build these sonic landscapes for the game. I love to experiment with unusual sounds, so this was such a fun project, and working with the Ubisoft team is always a pleasure.
Developed by Ubisoft Toronto***, Far Cry 6 immerses players into the adrenaline-filled world of a modern-day guerrilla revolution set in Yara, a tropical paradise frozen in time in the heart of the Caribbean. Playing as local Yaran Dani Rojas, players will explore and entire island nation and join the revolution to liberate its people from the oppressive rule of dictator Antón Castillo and his teenage son Diego brought to life by Hollywood stars Giancarlo Esposito (The Mandalorian, Breaking Bad) and Anthony Gonzalez (Coco).
Its not every day that you get to write music for a volcanic cavern of molten lava that has an old ship floating in the air. This was one of the first cues we worked on and it set the stage for the experimental sonic textures in the game; manipulating synths through old amps, pulverizing a Hurdy Gurdy through all sorts of pedals; it took my assistant Erik Lutz and I quite a while to put the studio back together after those sessions!

Will Bates is an award-winning composer, multi-instrumentalist and founder of Fall On Your Sword. He has composed original scores for a myriad of filmmakers including acclaimed directors Mike Cahill (Another Earth, I Origins), Alex Gibney (We Steal Secrets: The Story of Wikileaks, Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief, Zero Days), Ry Russo-Young (You Wont Miss Me, Nobody Walks) and Fisher Stevens (Mission Blue, Bright Lights).
Bates has scored a number of television series: Golden Globe Emmy-nominated Netflix series Unbelievable, SyFys hit The Magicians, Hulus The Path, Chance and The Looming Tower, Away for Netflix, as well as NBCs Rise. Other projects include Sweetbitter on Starz, the George R.R. Martin series Nightflyers on Netflix, and the Hulu biographical documentary Hillary. As a solo artist and multi-instrumentalist, Bates has recorded and toured around the globe under the name of his own post-punk band The Rinse and has collaborated with Electric Six front-man Dick Valentine as The Evil Cowards. As a saxophonist, Bates has collaborated with legendary artists ranging from 60's icon Lulu to techno legend Marshall Jefferson. As a producer and composer, he has worked with a similarly diverse bunch including Mike Rutherford, Roy Ayers, Pussy Riot and Morcheeba's Skye Edwards. In 2007, Bates created the first of a series of videos under the name Fall On Your Sword. His videos quickly went viral on YouTube, racking up hits in the millions and an explosive FOYS live act soon followed. In 2009, Fall On Your Sword evolved into a music production company. Bates currently resides in Los Angeles, which is also the home of Fall On Your Swords west coast studio.
