"Jameson 5K at Southwestern is going VIRTUAL for the 20th Annual event" Friday, October 23rd –- Sunday, October 25 , 2020 The Jameson 5K at Southwestern began in 2001 as a way of honoring the memory of Jaysn Flynn Jameson and to increase the endowment of the Jaysn Jameson Memorial Scholarship Fund at Southwestern University. Each year of the race our goal is to improve upon the last year and build the race to a premiere event for the University and Georgetown.The 20th Annual event will be all virtual due to the COVID-19 Pandemic restrictions and maintaining social distancing. Each participant will be able to run the 5K or walk the 1 Mile on any route, in any city at any time that is convenient for them during the 3-day weekend of Friday, October 23 – Sunday, October 25. Time yourself so that you can report your times to allow for the results to be posted. Registration: This year we only have online registration. https://www.raceentry.com/jameson-5k-at-southwestern/race-informationThe first 150 registrants will get a nice Cooling Towel.In an effort to reduce some of the postage costs and allow for more of the funds to go to the Jaysn Jameson Memorial Scholarship Fund, the t-shirts will be optional for a $10 additional fee.In accordance with IRS guidelines, Southwestern University is required to inform you that the fair market value of the Jameson 5K t-Shirt is approximately $3.93 and the cooling towel is approximately $3.30.Fees: $30 for adults: $25 for Southwestern students and Seniors (+55). T-Shirts are not guaranteed after October 14, 2020.Packet Pick-up: This year you can request to have your packet mailed to you or you can stop by to pick it up the weekend of the race. We will have a drive by packet pickup in Finch Plaza (parking lot behind Southwestern s Chapel) on Friday, October 23 from 12:00 PM 6:00 PM and on Saturday, October 24 from 10:00 AM 2:00 PM. We will also have a few special prizes for those that are able to make it to packet pickup during these times. Certified Run: Since the COVID-19 Pandemic restrictions are prohibiting us from running on our typical route, this will NOT be a certified run this year. If you are local to Georgetown, please feel free to run on that course if you so choose. The nice thing about this being a virtual run is that you can choose to run on any route, in any city at any time during the 3 days set aside for the event.Chip Timed: We will NOT have chip timing this year as we will not be able to gather together for the run in one spot. Please do time yourself and turn in your times for placement among the others running in your category. We are gathering sponsors for door prizes and these will be drawn randomly among those that turn in times for the run after October 25. Fun Runs in general are not large fundraisers unless there are sponsors that underwrite the expenses of the event. Each year the Jameson 5K at Southwestern has been supported by many local businesses, making it possible for ALL the registration fees collected to be donated DIRECTLY to the Jaysn Jameson Memorial Scholarship Fund.During 2001, the first annual event, there were 76 registrants for the race, of which 62% of the registrants had a tie to Southwestern University by being an alumni, student, faculty or staff member. Of the 76 registrants 66% were from Georgetown and the surrounding areas. All the registration fees were donated to the Scholarship Fund which totaled $810. In 2019, there were more than 195 registrants. Our largest event was in 2007 with 356 registrants. Last year close to 69% of all registrants were from the Georgetown / Austin area. Many of these registrants have participated in this event for multiple years. In 2019 alone, more than $17,030 was donated to the Scholarship Fund from the registration fees and additional donations received. This contribution brought the total amount donated from all the races to the Jaysn Jameson Memorial Scholarship Fund to over $171,152!Thank you all so much for your on-going support to the Jameson 5K! We're growing every year, and the scholarships we fund are really making a difference in the lives of young people.
