Together we can transform our nation's schools into the safe and affirming environment all youth deserve. GLSEN believes that every student has the right to a safe, supportive, and LGBTQ-inclusive K-12 education. We are a national network of educators, students, and local GLSEN Chapters working to make this right a reality.Our research and experience has shown that there are four major ways that schools can cultivate a safe and supportive environment for all of their students, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or expression. For nearly 30 years GLSEN has been there every step of the way to ensure the rights of LGBTQ youth are protected. GLSEN s Executive Director Eliza Byard lays out the concrete actions GLSEN will take to own up to our past mistakes and strive to become an anti-racist organization that centers the voices and leadership of Black and other BIPOC people. GLSEN s Deputy Executive Director Melanie Willingham-Jaggers explains how the landmark Supreme Court ruling affirming LGBTQ employment protections is also a call to action to fight for Black lives. Today, the U.S. Supreme Court took a momentous step by affirming federal non-discrimination protections for LGBTQ Americans, including the many LGBTQ educators in K-12 schools who have faced harassment or job loss simply because of who they are. This series of four research reports examines the school experiences of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI), Black, Latinx, and Native and Indigenous LGBTQ youth. Advocate for students.
