Description:

Ekurhuleni West Technical, Vocational, Education and Training College (EWC) is a public institution regulated by the FET Colleges Act no 16 of 2006, as amended. It was established in terms of the Further Education and Training Act, Act No .98 of 1998, declared as such by the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Education (Gauteng Province) in terms of a Provincial Gazette Extraordinary (dated 7 December 2001).Ekurhuleni West TVET College is situated in the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality in Gauteng Province in South Africa. EWC operates within a broad band and diverse communities and comprises of the following six (6) campuses: Alberton, Boksburg, Germiston, Kathorus,(in Katlehong/ Vosloorus/ Thokoza), Kempton (in Kempton Park) and Tembisa. The name "Ekurhuleni" originates from the geographical and municipal areas (the Southern Service Delivery Regions [SDR]), namely: Germiston (as regional centre), Alberton, areas of Boksburg, Katlehong, Thokoza, Vosloorus and sections of Freeway Park and the Northern Service Delivery Region [SDR) namely Kempton Park (as regional centre) Tembisa, Edenvale, including Bedfordview and Primrose, in which the College is situated."Ekurhuleni" - means place of peace in Xitsonga. "Ekurhuleni" was taken from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality and "West" from the Western Belt within the Municipal area, where all the campuses are situated. Today, I stand before you as one of your own, indebted by our collective experience of the unprecedented, and unexpected, effect of lock-down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, on our lives, and livelihoods through the College. I am also humbled and appreciative of the task now bestowed on me, to lead EWC College during this time of uncertainty, to navigate through the new normal and fly into the future as reflective in our theme – Find us in the Cloud! Colleagues, we come from an era that pushed us to dig deep for excellence while remaining accountable regardless. The experience of lock-down disruption over the past 6 months has seen us drawing strength strongly from this culture. We remained resilient, accountable and dug deep for innovation as we swung the delivery of our programmes to online digital platforms. We were the first College to implement a teaching and learning system called Brightspace. We remained accountable to our key clients, our students and their parents. Consistent communication among us and our clients, and the adherence to COVID-19 safety protocols were our critical weapons that helped us to stay alive, with some measure of business continuity. Let us, however, agree that while our responses were the appropriate ones, they were, however, done in a haste. We now need to pause and re-strategize, communicate the new direction clearly, bring-in the needed resources and capacity building programmes that will ensure that no-one is left behind. The new world normal that we live in today requires us to have a deep-seated will to learn. Such an attitude allows us to strive for help timeously, to bring in new talents and competences demanded by the new economy. As we reflect and chart our new way, let us not be limited by what we know, or what we can do at present, but let our plans be indicative of the journey we are to run in learning new ways of delivering our technical, practical-based programmes remotely, providing a new experience of learning technical vocation anywhere, anytime. This is our new major challenge indeed. Let our plans be indicative of the learning journey we are opening ourselves to, to be able to remotely support our students academically, psychologically and financially. Automating our application and registration processes, conducting authentic online assessments, collection of results and seamless reporting on academic progress accessible by both staff and students anytime and anywhere. Colleagues, parallel to being a continuously learning organization, we need to change our mindset from, "I have to do this activity" to "I am accountable for this specific outcome." Being accountable is something we choose to be. It is an empowering concept, a place to stand. It is a commitment that you safely see to it's end, regardless of the circumstances. It is a self-declared ownership of the whole, and that declaration gives you power to act in any circumstance. Obstacles are simply part of the path to making it happen, and no stone is left unturned. To read the whole message, please click here: Principal's Message. Please Note:There are no accommodation facilities available for students at EWC.BursariesSpecial Note: Bursary funds are limited, and notall students will be successful.
