On 13th November 2000 we opened our Sulivan Sweetland office in a little attic in W2. Two women founding an artists’ management company in a city with a high density of top international managements offered a new model born out of a recognition that different musicians require different styles of management. That has remained our ethos – a belief in artists as individuals with their own ambitions and dreams. We’ve backed artists from the early stages of their careers before they were widely known (Grigory Sokolov, Steven Osborne, Doric Quartet), propelled conductors to the next level and we’ve kept our commitment to chamber music ensembles at the heart of what we do. We are grateful for the longevity of our relationships with our artists and with the promoters who’ve supported us over these years, and for the commitment of our loyal team of staff. Our long and close association with Ravi Shankar over many years is one we are particularly proud of and we continue to uphold his legacy. We have a taste for unusual instruments and mould-breaking musicians and actively seek out artists such as Avi Avital, percussionist Vivi Vassileva and Anoushka Shankar who challenge convention and inspire us to work in new directions. We find this an important aspect of a constantly evolving music business where audience interests broaden and the lines between different genres become more fluid. The creativity of these artists has spurred us to work in new ways be it concerts at Glastonbury Festival, developing commissioning projects, producing and touring film with live music in partnership with the British Film Institute and crafting new income-stream models for forward-thinking, digitally-aware artists of the future. Angela’s achievements in this area were recognized last year with the ABO Award for Artist Manager of the Year. We thank you all for your support and friendship, and our artists for their constant inspiration. Twenty years on, we find ourselves in extraordinary times but we have a business we’re proud of and a model we still believe in. Watch Steven Osborne give a recital of beautiful works by Debussy and Rachmaninov live (20 November) as part of the Bath Mozart Minifest. Clara-Jumi Kang performs Beethoven’s Violin Concerto under the baton of Vincent de Kort with the Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra as part of the Trans-Siberian Art Festival 2020 (19 November) Doric String Quartet are joined by Michael Collins to perform Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet as part of the Bath Mozart Minifest on 18 November.
