Loved this DIY project by Nyome Blanchard and her husband that I spotted on Instagram over the weekend so much, I asked her if we could share here on the blog. Measuring in at just under five meters (approx. 16.5 feet) wide, they were determined to find a way to have a custom wall to wall built-in within their budget in their new home in Fern Bay, NSW (Australia).

Continuing on with our Handmade and Shop Small Gift Guide, this ones for all the homebodys in your life. For those who like to stay in and stay cozy!

International architecture and interiors practice, Finkernagel and Ross recently updated a semi-detached Victorian home in Dartmouth Park, London, creating a perfect mix of old and new.

From the welcoming traditional staircase with its decorative carvings to an open space kitchen, the home has a playful sense to it with its geometric extension, which looks to have grown organically out of the parent building with its curvy walkway and garden.

Lets take a look!

Gathering up cards for a holiday post just never grows old. After all these years, I still love a little papergoods round-up! And this year doesnt disappoint. 21 festive cards for Holiday 2021. Check them all out below!

1. Winter WishesbyNicholas John Frith for Red Cap Cards

Today Im excited to kick off a special holiday series Im starting this season called Handmade Holiday. Before I begin and a special note Im creating this seriespro bonoas my contribution of giving back to such an important creative community Ive embraced over the years.

For those of you who have been around with us these past 16 years online, youll remember our Poppytalk Handmade online marketplace (perhaps we were ahead of our time in light of the now pandemic and all the online marketplaces popping up these days). Our support to the handmade community over the years has not waivered, and Im proud to continue this tradition with this seasons series. Fun fact: Our tagline since inception (2005) has been The beautiful, the decayed and the handmade.

Im also starting a little early (for those asking about posting anything holiday before Remembrance Day) due to the well-known fact of the possibility of shipping congestions, supplies, etc) due to the Pandemic. Back in 2008 we posted 101 Reasons to Buy Handmade, and this year that post seems even more valid than ever, but Im adding one more to it that I came across the other day from @snakeoakfarm on Instagram Because The work of artisans is not sitting on cargo ships.

I cant wait to share more throughout the days ahead, and to start, Im proud to feature one of my most favourite artists, Clare Elsaesser. Check her work out below!

I recently came across theNordic Barnhouse Project(in Denmark) on Instagram via one of my favourite Swedish design bloggers, Frida Ramstadt ofTrendenser. Frida mentioned the architect, Bruno Jakobsen recently won the Randers Municipalitys Architecture Award 2021 for the project. The home is also the architects residence. Loving the open spaces that face into a courtyard, and the windows that open up to the surrounding forest.
The main focus throughout the design is the actual looking out into the woods. No matter where you are, its always in view, says Bruno Jakobsen, architect.

The earthy tones, black roofs and facades in tight vertical planks of Canadian cedar set the tone. Theorangery placed between the two buildings pulls the spaces together creating a sheltered courtyard for all seasons. Such a dreamy home.

One of my favourite times of the year is fall, not only for the cooler weather and beautiful fall foliage, but its also the time when all the stationers start sharing all of their beautiful calendars for the upcoming new year. Theres something hopeful as beautiful new designs are revealed, to help push forward positive vibes for the future and new year ahead. And as tradition has it, heres a little round-up of a few that crossed our path this season.
1. Best Year Ever Wall Calendar(above) by ban.do

Happy Fall! Yes, Its been a minute (I know), but back to regular programming, kicking things off with a whopping fall version of On the Radar! A collection of things that got my attention as of late and got pinned or saved away while offline. Im foregoing the muted colours of fall this season at the moment, for things that are vibin a bit of colour, and hopefully shining a bit of lightness and happiness (because, I think we all need a little colour right now, yes? So thanks for hanging in there and coming back to visit my little neck in the woods! Did you know Poppytalk is going onto 17 years here come early 2022? So crazy! Much has changed, and much has not, but one thing is crystal clear after some much needed time off, the beautiful, the decayed and the handmade (our original tagline) are still king and we are here for it! Lets go!

Update: Looks like Instagram and Facebook is still down, so if youre on Twitter, heres our handle. Haha.

" Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass on a summer day listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is hardly a waste of time."John Lubbock
August is here and it's time to watch the clouds float across the sky. We'll be taking a break here on the blog for the next few weeks. Fun fact: I've never really taken off such a block of time since I started Poppytalk over 16 years ago, but this year I'm taking my cue from John Lubbock and will perhaps lie on the grass listening to the murmur of water. In the meantime a few links for you:
