NK Fishline HomeShare matches people with space in their homes with people who want low cost housing options.

Who is a good fit for the HomeShare Program?

A home sharer might be:
* A senior citizen
* A working professional
* A single parent
* A person with disabilities
* A person wishing to share his or her life and home with others

For these people, shared housing offers companionship, affordable housing, security, mutual support and much more.

Home sharing programs can offer a more secure alternative to other roommate options.

Applicants are carefully screened through interviewing, background checking, and personal references.

Please contact Marta at homeshare@nkfishline.org or 360-626-38201 comment: Tuesday, February 14, 2017 Share Your Love at Fishline! Share your love this week at Fishline! Surprise your Valentine with a gift given in your name:

No comments: Friday, August 26, 2016 September is Hunger Action Month!September isHunger Action Month, when Feeding America and member food banks, including North Kitsap Fishline, ask everyone in America to take action to fight hunger in their community all month long. This time of year -- right before the holidays, is when food banks experience their lowest inventory.

During Hunger Action Month, we are focusing on two important programs: Healthy Table and Food for Thought.
Healthy Table aims to provide items such as dairy and fresh fruits and vegetables to our clients through our market. These items are provided through grocery rescue, which can sometimes be scarce, depending on their inventory. Fishline struggles to keep perishable items on our shelves. These items include:

- Fresh milk
- Yogurt
- Fruit and vegetables
- Eggs

These items are critical to encouraging a balanced a diet and a Healthy Table for our clients.

Our receiving hours for donations of these perishable items are: Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri, 8:30am to 2pm and Wed from 8:30am to 6pm. Please note: these are donation receiving hours only, food bank operation hours are different. Please do not leave donations at the door after hours. Arrangements can be made to deliver donations of perishable items after hours by emailing nkfishline@gmail.com.

As school begins, we start to focus on one of our most expensive programs: Food for Thought. Purchased items are packed in anonymous meal packs that are delivered to the school counselors every Friday afternoon. They are in turn discretely distributed to the children at school before they leave for the weekend. Children are eligible if they exhibit signs of chronic hunger or are part of the free meal program in their school.

When donating items for our Food for Thought program, you can use this handy shopping list:

Granola bars
Fruit snacks
Pop tarts
Individual oatmeal packets
Peanut butter crackers
Apple sauce cups
Fruit cups
Pudding cups
Individual cereal boxes
Cup of noodles
Chicken soup or chili
Individual packages of raisins or craisins
Other healthy snack items

Hunger Action Month is your opportunity to join Fishline and make a real and lasting impact on our effort to support our neighbors in need. Whether its by advocating and raising awareness, making donations, or volunteering, you can find the way thats right for you to make a difference during Hunger Action Month.

This week Fishline received a gift of $1200 from Hailey Fort ofHailey's Harvest. This award was given to her from the Newton Kindness Organization, formed in honor of Charlotte Bacon who lost her life in the Sandy Hook Tragedy. The award ceremony takes place around Charlotte's birthday and celebrates Charlottes life and recognizes the very best of the countless stories of Acts of Kindness by children received from around the globe. Typically, there are approximately 8 finalists and 15 25 medalists honored at the event. Hailey was one of the kids who received an award and when asked about her favorite charity, she chose Fishline! This gift will go to our Birthday Fairy program (Hailey's Favorite), Food for Thought, and to help with our homeless. Thank you Hailey for all the wonderful things you are doing for Fishline and the inspiration to our community!#nkfishline#haileysharvestNo comments: Monday, December 14, 2015 Christmas Gifts at Fishline!
Last week Vicky her husband bought 15 Christmas trees for us to give away in the Market! When Olmstead's Nursery learned that she was buying them for Fishline, they gave her a greatly reduced price...so that she could buy more than the 5 she thought she could afford! Thank you neighbors!

Vanessa Elliott shared this cuter than cute photo of her kids in front of one of the donated trees!

Message from the DirectorThis year, Fishline will commemorate its 45th year of service to the North Kitsap community.What began as a transportation and errand service run by volunteers from local churches, headquartered in a meeting room at St. Charles Episcopal Church, has become a thriving, busy food bank and emergency services agency.In 1979, the first year we have recorded statistics, we served neighbors 400 times when they visited the food bank. Last year, we served neighbors nearly 28,000 times, distributing 1.3 million pounds of food and helping more than 600 households to avoid foreclosure, to keep their houses warm or to find temporary housing when they have lost theirs.But the backstory to these statistics is where the human, personal story exists. This is where you witness the remarkable efforts of more than 225 volunteers who take their turns keeping the food moving through or helping Second Season to sell items that turn into assistance for our clients.It's where you learn of the stories of our neighbors, our family members, our friends who are doing their very best to outrun a depressed economy, working where and when they can, worrying about whether it will be enough. And it's where you learn about the way a helping hand can change lives. If you have ever been in a crisis in your life, and someone reached out to share the burden or offer a way out, you will know that feeling. You never forget it. As a member of our community, supporters of Fishline and recipients of its services, you are the shareholders in this company. Our experience teaches us that interest in Fishline and its ability to care for our vulnerable is high, that many of us know that a community is strong when it cares for its own, and we all have stake in that outcome. Our new website and blog are vehicles to tell the stories, to celebrate our progress and to report on the challenges. We witness nearly every day the changing face of need in North Kitsap, and we want to offer that view to those who may not be able to see it firsthand.We hope you'll follow along as we share the poignant moments, the hints and signs of progress and the trends we notice. In many ways, we are a bellwether, a measure of community health. Working together, we will stay a step ahead of the need as long as it exists, telling the story along the way.
