Thefocus will be on unicellular microbial eukaryotes, known asprotists. A database (TBestDB)manages, organizes, analyses and dissiminates immense body ofdata generated by PEP. The analysis workbench AnaBench has been developed that allows seamless access to sequenceanalysis tools. Organelle Genome Megasequencing Program (OGMP)collaboration of seven Canadianresearch groups. Sequence determination of complete organelle genomesprovides the data for genome bioinformatics, the investigation oforganelle genome evolution and the molecular phylogeny of protists. Organelle Genome Database(GOBASE)database, which integratessequence data, RNA secondary structures, physical and gene maps,information on biochemical pathways, taxonomy, evolution, and more.Defunct as of 2017-04. Fungal Mitochondrial Genome Project (FMGP)mitochondrial genomes fromall major fungal lineages, to resolve the fungal branch of the 'tree oflife', and to investigate mitochondrial gene expression, introns andmobileelements. Protist Image Data (PID)Historically, this site is an initiative of the OGMP and included theProtist Image Database (PID) and MegaGopher. In the following years,two further independent projects have been added complementing theOGMP research activities: GOBASE and FMGP. The more recently addedPEP project builds on our expertise gathered in the OGMP, but itsresearch focus is on the nuclear genome (or the expressed portion ofit) of eukaryotes. While the grants for the collaborative programsOGMP (CIHR) and PEP (GenomeQuebec/GenomeCanada) have come to theirend, organelle genome and EST sequencing in protists is ongoing ata smaller scale in our laboratories.TAGS:Evolutionary Integrative Genomics
