For Immediate Release 2020 Chautauqua County Fair Cancelled Amid COVID-19 Public Health Concerns Due to the evolving COVID-19 situation,its impact on community health and well-being, the2020 Chautauqua County Fair has been cancelled. The safety of the Chautauqua County Fair's visitors, participants and community is the highestpriority in producing the annual fair. After careful consideration,it became clear thatcancellation was the prudent choice for the fair to do its part to improve community healthand safety, and reduce the cycle of infection. Provided the COVID-19 situation improves to thepoint where it is safe to hold mass gatherings,the Chautauqua County Fair will return July 19-25, 2021. "The impact of the fair's cancellation will be felt far beyond the loss of our annualcelebration," said Dave Wilson, president of the Fair Board. "We are heartbroken for the smallbusinesses, family farms, competitors, exhibitors and everyone who rely on the income andexposure the Chautauqua County Fair brings them." "Since 1881, we have only cancelled the fair for 3 years during WWII (1942-1944) when thefairgrounds were used for a Prisoner of War Camp for the Germans,Japanese and Italians,"said Wilson. "We look forward to brighter days ahead when we can gather again to celebrate all that isexceptional about Chautauqua County," Wilson said. "Until then, stay safe, be well andsupport each other. We'll miss you."
