(SCA) which is an International nonprofit educational organization devoted to the study of pre-17th century western culture. The society concentrates on the European Middle Ages and Renaissance, and members work to recreate the arts and skills of this era. We are a barony of the Kingdom of Atlantia. Our Barony comprises a large portion of Southwestern Virginia from Staunton in the north to Hillsville in the South, east to Lynchburg and west to Bland, Tazewell, and even parts of Smyth and Russell Counties. Blacksburg, the New River Valley, and Roanoke can all be found within Black Diamond's borders. As there are active Covid-19 cases in the area, all in-person SCA activities are suspended.Please take all possible safety precautions. On the Black Diamond Facebook page, there will be a post for a Black Diamond Discordgroup where you can use video and audio to chat with other people about all things SCA.Do not feel lost or left out, go online, join the chat groups out there and communicate withothers. Our Events The Barony holds several events each year within the Barony's borders. If you are new to the SCA and would like to experience what we do, we welcome you to come join us during any of these events! Check out these links to get more information about the events. Ice Castles: held in late January Assessment: held in early July Bacchus: held in late September !!! CALL FOR BIDS FOR BACCHUS 2020 !!! Yes, this is a call for bids for Bacchus 2020. If we are to have Bacchus, we need to plan now and make all the appropriate announcements in order to have the event. This planning is made with the knowledge that the event may be postponed to next year. If we do not plan now, then there will be no event this year. The plan is to find a site willing to work with us and plan for holding Bacchus in September 26-27, 2020. If you need ideas, or want to know what Bacchus 2019 did, check out the website by clicking the Bacchus event link above. As part of the negotiations, the following items must be discussed: In September, if State ordinances allow gatherings of 100 or more, would the site be willing to hold a camping event? If State ordinances do not allow for gatherings over 100, will the site be willing to calendar our event in for September 2021? (Postpone the event to next year instead of cancellation) If the site is willing to postpone the event, will a deposit hold our place for September 25-26, 2021? It is an online meeting. A link to the meeting will be posted on the BD FB page. If you cannot make the meeting, submit your bid to the Seneschal prior to the meeting so it can be reviewed at the meeting.
