team oskiKeep up with the Summer Biodesign Immersion Experience online! This year's cohort is pioneering a fully online experience and documenting their journey on Medium. Our NIH-sponsored summer program focuses on the first two stages of the design process: needs finding and needs screening. Our next seminar:Ready for Fall 2020?We know it's been very confusing. Please be patient while we try to hit this moving target. Consult the campus Fall 2020 site for the most up-to-date information on instruction and campus.Recent news from Berkeley BioengineeringWelcome Professor Delcassian!July 8, 2020The Department of Bioengineering is excited to announce that Dr. Derfogail Delcassian will be joining our faculty as an Assistant Professor in January 2021.  Delcassian received her Ph.D. in the Department of Materials, Faculty of Engineering, Imperial College London, where she performed research under the mentorship of Dr. Iain Dunlop and Professor Molly Stevens. How is the coronavirus spreading around the Bay Area?July 8, 2020Professor Liana Lareau is using genome sequencing to study how COVID-19 is spreading around the Bay Area. Remembering Bertram Lubin, Former President of Children’s Hospital OaklandJuly 7, 2020The bioengineering and Bay Area communities are mourning the loss of Dr. Bert Lubin, former president and CEO of UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland. Lubin was a tireless advocate for bringing the power of engineering to bear on human health, a great champion of the Berkeley-UCSF partnership, and a huge contributor to our campus. He was also a warm and generous person and we are grateful to have known him. The family has asked that donations be made in his name to the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Center of Excellence for Immigrant Child and Wellbeing and/or the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Center for Child and Community Health.I m a BioengineerKathleen GalloAssociate Director of Clinical and Regulatory Affairs, Channel MedsystemsMasters in Translational Medicine, 2011I ve been responsible for our company s regulatory submissions in the US, Mexico, Canada, and the EU, as well as providing clinical and technical support for the physician investigators in our pivotal trial. I gained my foundation in clinical research and regulatory affairs through the MTM program. This allowed me to jump in quickly when our company developed the need for clinical and regulatory support. Brian McRaeSoftware Engineer, GenentechBS Bioengineering, 2012; MS Bioengineering/ Translational Medicine, 2013Our team builds exciting web applications that visualize drug manufacturing data and enable faster and more informed decisions. We work with various manufacturing groups such as Operations and Validation to understand their problems and collaborate to design new software solutions. With a background in bioengineering, I can make better design choices because I can understand what is happening in the manufacturing plant and what the code ultimately needs to accomplish.
