Thursday, December 10, 2009 What's the conversion of ballet pointe shoes?

I'm looking to purchase a pair of pointe ballet shoes, and I wear a size 7 street shoe.. What is the appropriate size in ballet point shoes for me to get?

What's the conversion of ballet pointe shoes?sunshine

It depends on the shoe. If you get it fitted, the person should know all conversions. If you're ordering online (which I do not recommend in the slightest), the sizing chart will be there. At least it's there at www.discountdance.com.

Good luck, hope I helped.??

What's the conversion of ballet pointe shoes?star theater opera theater

9/8 what size are your ballet flats it should be slightly smaller than that but you need to try them and and get them fitted really.

as long as you classes they should tell if you dont do pointe classes dont get shoes.
Each brand has a different conversion. Your best bet is to get fitted at a ballet supply store.

If you dont have that option where you live, ask your teacher which brand they suggest , and then purchase at least 3 pairs in different sizes based on the conversion chart . Your teacher will be able to help you pick the best one.
it completely depends on the pointe shoe. if you look in a dance cataloge (such as Discount Dance) it will usually tell you the conversion for that particular shoe you are looking at. I normally wear size 6.5 and i wear 4.5 in Grishko pointe shoes.
wait, you're making it seem like you are going to wear these for fun (I'm looking to purchase.....). THESE SHOES ARE NOT FOR FUN! They are very uncomfortable, and for dancing in only. However, if you simply worded it wrong, get them fitted, and don't buy them online the first time. Go to your local dance store. POINTE SHOES ARE NOT STREET WEAR.

im starting up ballet again, but i wanna start to do some basics at home so im not too out of shape when i start again in feb or march. so can any one tell me streaches that the actually do in class or at home to help with splits and what not. i dont want anything u found on the internet i want what u have done and know works.

Streaches for ballet?musicals

dont push yourself too hard u'll get hurt

splits are always a good start if they are flat on the floor or against the wall. Preferably for ballet i would use against the wall but if you find that hard it wouldnt reli matter

also work on your point and flex sit on the floor with your back straight and legs flat on the ground in frount of u (straight) point flex point flex for as many times as necisarry and then reach down

hope this helps

xoxPeace Out and gd luck

No comments: Questions about ballet to improve balance and jumping?

My basketball coach wants me to attend some ballet classes run by a female ex-gym teacher at our school as a condition on keeping me on the team, in order for me to improve and work on both my balance and leaps. Basically he wants me to be more light footed and more effortless/graceful in jumping to get the most out of my potential. He said if I think this is for sissies then I'd have a real shock coming to me and this ex-teacher won't cut me any slack.

I've got to stop by the dance school on Monday night to meet her and also find out what clothing/shoes I have to buy for the class and learn more about what I am going to do there. She's putting me in a beginners class, I know that much.

Anyone have any idea what will be involved in the classes and also what male students normally have to wear for these kinds of classes?

Questions about ballet to improve balance and jumping?performing arts show

Ballet is extremely difficult, and you will be very sore for the first few weeks if your teacher is running the class right and you're making an effort. You will also use muscles you didn't know you had. Guys wear a dance belt (supportive underwear to keep things in place), tights, black ballet slippers, and a black or white tight-fitting tshirt. You may consider cutting your hair, but you will never be required to put it in a bun. Only girls do that.

A traditional ballet class will start with barre exercises: http://www.abt.org/education/dictionary/...

Then you will have exercises in the center and across the floor.

Good luck to you, my friend. You will need it.

if your just in a beginners class i think a ponytail should be fine. i suggest you were shorts and bare feet. in the first couple of classes you'll probably lean about balance. good luck XD
Tie your hair up. No need to have it cut.
if its anything like my dance school you should get ur hair cut. in a begining class expect small jumps in 1st, 2nd. changements, basic tendues, battements, normal leaps, foot cramps, blisters, calluses, aching, (well maybe not in beginning, but for most dancing expect that if u do it correctly) o and you should expect ballet kicks, more jetes, only basic things, nothing hard at all, when u get in the advanced class, then you need to worry, i'm proud that you decided to start dancing, you wont regret it.
have to have ponytail if it is in ur face.

At a studio u wear at a t-shirt and tights

at a not so serious studio u would wear t-shirt and shorts.

No comments: Inflexibility in Ballet?

I am very inflexible in a bad way. I just started ballet. Is there any one there who can help me with more stretches and warmups so i can atleast gain some flexibility. What i need help most with is the splits, thats what everyone is learning. Everyone is way ahead of me because of my inflexibility is there any stretches or warmups to make doing them any easier?? Please Help

Inflexibility in Ballet?ballet theater

Warm up for a few minutes before you stretch - And note that people are more inflexible in the morning than at night. The right way to stretch is slow and relaxed. DO NOT BOUNCE. Bouncing can actually cause you to pull the muscle you are trying to stretch.

You should stretch to the point of "MILD OR MODERATE TENSION". If you overstretch you may cause damage. Back off (slowly) if the stretch feels painful.

Hold each stretch for a minimum of 20 seconds each, without bouncing. BREATHE slowly and naturally. Do not hold your breathe while stretching. Relax the stretch. Each time you breathe out try to relax further into the stretch a little more. Again, only to the point of mild or moderate tension.

It's a good idea to be doing stretches for your entire body - do a search for "stretching exercises" to see what those are. Meanwhile check the following website:

http://exercise.about.com/cs/flexibility...

for stretches which are good for front back splits. Hamstring Stretch; Inner Thigh Stretch; Lunge Stretch; Kneeling Hamstring stretch [you need pictures to show stretching and I can't get those to show on this]

And practice stretching for about an hour in the morning and one hour at night.

This is the last thing you will want to hear! But learning the splits takes a lot of time. And it's different for everybody.

Doing the splits is more of an excersise, a stretch, a warm up for ballet class. When do you ever see the splits performed on stage in a classical ballet? You don't, not on the floor. They are used in grand jetes, arasesques and other things that require great flexibility to do to their full extent.

So you need to ask yourself why you want your splits? Is it just to be able to show off and say you can do them? Or does it work towards a larger goal?

The main thing you can do is stretch every day or two (for some people it is good to have a rest day.) You should know some stretches from class. Use the ones you do in sport at school, as well. You should warm up (run around a bit, do some isolations, star jumps etc), then do some stretching. Do not practise the splits cold.

Ask your teacher and fellow peers for some good splits excersises.
Don't get me started on splits! I have agony each time I'm in class doing them!

Yoga is absolutely awesome for strength and flexibility, as well as pilates. Stick with it. I nearly died for a few weeks when I first started dancing, but it's amazing how your body adapts.
for splits here are some stretches and exercises-

first start out by stretching and warming up your leg muscles make sure you stretch your hamstrings and calves out really welll before starting also it helps to take a hot shower before hand to warm up your muscles.

stretch- this is aresistance stretch, face your bathroom or kitchen counter top and put one leg on it, then (using your leg muscles) push down as hard as you can for 30 seconds, rest and then do 30 more seconds, (repeat with other leg)

stretch-this is another resistance stretch, face away from your bathroom or kitchen counter and place your leg (knee down) on the counter and using your leg muscles push as hard as you can down for 30 seconds then rest then 30 more seconds(repeat on other side)

training-this I call pillow splits, forst put a bunch of pillows underneath you it can be as amny as 20 or as little as 5 and ease down into the splits stay there for a while and just hang out, watch t.v., finish homework, etc. then over the days remove a pilloe or two at a time and let gravity do it's work (remember to do both splits)

training-this is a swimthrough exercise for your middle splits or straddle splits, first you are going to put both feet infront of you parallell, count to 5, then you are going to slide into your middle split, hold for5, then go back to parallell, count to 5, then go into your middle splits but lean forwad onto your stomach and use your arms to push yourself forward and out of your middle splits so your feet end up behind you (tat is called a swim through) repeat this 4 times

training- over splits are pretty slef explanatory, find a small chair or stack 1 or 2 pillows up and place your front foot on top of your surface then slide down into your splits and hold it, (remebr to do all 3 sides)

training-find a wall with nothing in the way sit with your butt against the wall and put your legs out into a straddle and push down with your own leg muscle as hard as you can and hold it for at least a minute

training-lay down on your back and take one leg and oulling it towards your nose as hard as you can remeber to do this withboth legs.

then the last and best thing yo can do is just to stretch and hold your splits on a regular basis

-if oyuhave any othe questions email me at lulublue2@gmail.com

-hope this helps some : )
Warm up with some plies and staccato jumps in 1st-5th positions. then stretch stretch stretch. Stretch in the morning when you wake up and at night before you go to bed. do it everyday and you will see some improvement. But dont expect it to be immediate you have to work at it. Stretching also improves your extension.

No comments: Are those ballet type shoes appropriate for prom?

My date is my height, so I don't want to wear heels.

My dress isn't your typical prom dress. It's tea-length, with a chiffon overlay that goes down farther. The whole dress is pink.

So, would those ballet-type flats be appropriate?

Are those ballet type shoes appropriate for prom?concert tickets

Sure, I actually think that would be quite cute. Id get a silver ballet flat, so it doesn't look so "matchy"

Are those ballet type shoes appropriate for prom?theater seating opera theater

Not really but if you must, you must.
Absolutely!!! Think about it... Everyone takes their shoes off @ prom anyways. I knew some girls who wore flip flops. I would definately wear flats (only if it is a long dress.) Nobody sees your feet anyways.
Sure, maybe just not the rubber-sneaker type. Get the ones that are more dressy.
Sure why not? They're definitely in style right now....very cute....and it would save you from a LOT of pain so you could concentrate on your hot date instead of your screaming in pain toes!
sure, I think those would be great! I wore white satin ones with my wedding dress. You could even dress them up with a little lace or rhinestones if you wanted them to be a little fancier!
if they look good with the dress and you love them then absolutely. just make sure your dress doesnt drag all over the floor and get ruined. oh what i would do to go back to my prom!!
I actually think that flats are a good idea for prom, especially because you'll be dancing, a lot of girls end up taking off their shoes to dance, but wearing flats, you won't have that problem.

And it helps the height issue.

As long as the flats are more formal, I think it'd be cute.

Have fun. ?
sweetie it is your body and if you have the balls to wear em then by all means do it

a friend of mine is wearing converse hi tops with her dress

i am wearing gold gladiator sandals

and my reason is that it will be easier to dance in and my bf is my height too

ballet flats are totally cute

just as long as you look nice and not all short and stumpy because tea length dresses tend to shoeten a person

i say go for it
I don't think it would be appropriate, nor do I think it would look good with your dress, but it could? Also, you could try kitten heels, or a very very low heel shoe. Have fun at the prom =]
I don't think so. But maybe after prom. If u go to a party after the prom. Maybe u can find a low heels so u won't be as much taller than your date.
Normally no, but being that your date is ur height and the style of dress your wearing, I think it'll be cute.
if they're really really cute and go well with your outfit, sure. but a lot of people wear them to school on like no special occasion. but today i saw this really cute like creme silk pair.

sure, for prom. good luck!
yea, they are appropriate but they have to be formal its actually a good idea because they're more comfortable to dance and have a good in. by the end of they night your feet wont be hurting. good luck. have fun at your prom
If wearing them will make you feel comfortable then you should wear them. Why not? Plus they have all kinds of styles so I'm sure that you will find some that go perfect with your dress. Just remember that you want to be happy with your pictures because when you look back at them you don't want to be hating the fact that you don't like them because you wont ever be able to have a second prom!
sure it is! since these are in style right now...y not!?

No comments: Can I lie about my age to get into ballet?

I am 23 years old and I am getting very very good at ballet. I want to know ... can I lie about my age to get into a ballet company? Can I lie about my age on my exams at the ballet studio I am at? I know how cutthroat the ballet world is and don't want my age to come before my talent.

Can I lie about my age to get into ballet?performing art center

these days, age matters less than technique. most companies would allow you to audtion....if your honest. lying is a great way to get in and then get thrown out when they figure it out. how long could you keep that up? and don't like to your studio either...if you get caught, the ballet world is a small one, and you will find out that its more cuthroat than you think...get black listed at one studio/company, and its over. no one will train you, employ you, allow you to sit in the audience. just be honest, and most companies dont ask your age at the audtion. they watch you perform, set up an interview, and then....you go from there. good luck!

Can I lie about my age to get into ballet?theatre tickets opera theater

it depends if your lying to make you be younger, thats ok but if your lying to make you look older, thats not a good idea. because you were already there at that age all you have to do is go back.
lying gets you nowhere! if you get found out for lying, you'll get thrown out anyway, so i really wouldn't bother. x
The choice is up to you BUT think about both sides of your own question:

Pro: If you lie you can get in and start achieveing your dream slightly eariler then the rest so you MIGHT have a little extra boost.

Con: With the total and utter lack of privacy on the internet ther is a 99.9% chance that your real information will come to light and they might punish you for your deception by kicking you out.

Which is more important to you?

Is a small advantage more important to you then getting found out and being kicked out for dishonesty??

Will another school take you after you are censured for lying by the company you were at?

I, personally, don't think it is worth the risk.

But you will do what you want to do... I just hope you have both the positive and negative outcomes in your head when you do it.
id say if it'd help you go for it, whatever it takes. but could you pull off the age you'd be saying? and what would happen if they found out? cos they chances are if you lie, sooner or later you'll be found out.
i dont think you should because it could come back and they could find out that you are lying. if you are good enough it wont matter what your age is.
What if someone finds out you're lying? Wouldn't that look worse than being truthful about your age?
My daughter has been to a couple professional auditions (she's a senior BFA dance major) and age is not a factor that is needed on her resume or is asked about. All that the artistic directors care about is a) talent and skill and b) whether you've had any other professional experience. There is no reason for you to reveal your age.
if your really good

then the company wont mind if your too young or old

they just want the best

and u might get severe punishment for lying on an exam and to the company
when they do a backgroung check they'll fing out and it will diminish your chances to work in any company

No comments: Taking up ballet lessons as an adult?

I'm 22 now and I took ballet lessons from the age of 5-14. I danced pointe and got to a fairly advanced level. But between college (and other things) i've gotten out of shape. I've still retained by muscular legs and great arch, but I'm really not flexible anymore. Would I be able to take adult classes and get back en pointe? Any suggestions for getting back in shape? Thanks

Taking up ballet lessons as an adult?oper

Absolutely you can take an adult class. You will have to ease back into being more flexible and into "shape". Be sure you warm up really well and then stretch as best you can. Take it slow and don't overdo anything - the last thing you need is an injury that is slow to heal. At 22 you are hardly "old" and really shouldn't have a hard time. You should also be able to get back into the advanced womens classe after a few months (if not sooner). I've seen a bunch of women like you start off in adult class then as they get in shape and flexible move into a group that has more classes/week . Good Luck.

Taking up ballet lessons as an adult?hollywood theater opera theater

best way to get back in shape is to get back to class. meantime, you probably remember your barre work (plies, tendus, etc), so you can practice that around the house.

do go and enjoy!
