Description:

Singing in a choir -what a great way toexercise the brain and the body, and meet other like-minded people, bothsingersand audiences. Formed in 2007, we are a group of localsingers in this rural locality who decided we wanted to sing the ever widening a-cappella repertoire- choralmusic without accompaniment- and along the way have a go at everythingfrom plainsong and polyphony to pop. We are currently organised as a thirty-two voice choir plus an actor and a poet, with over a dozen guests who deputise for regular singers. We also run an apprenticeship scheme. We've sung as far afield as the Isle of Arran, St Giles Cathedral Edinburgh, Glasgow Cathedral, Dunfermline Abbey, St Asaph Cathedral North Wales, St Silas Church Newcastle, Brinkburn Priory, Romaldkirk in the Durham Dales, all the Borders Abbeys and dozens of more local venues in the Scottish Borders, North Northumberland and occasionally East Lothian. We give between six and ten concerts a year. Our programmes can be on a single theme or a joyful mixture. Sacred and secular, classical and modern, sometimes including jazz, folk or pop. They can be fully sung or have readings as well, sometimes with poems written especially for the concert. To date we'd raised over £32,500 for local national charities. We meet on Tuesday evenings, usually in Eccles, north ofColdstream in the Scottish Borders - choristers, guests,apprentices and visitors.
