THE LFET SPONSORS HIGHER LEVELS OF STUDENT BETTERMENT THROUGH A WIDE RANGE OF SPECIAL ACTIVITIES

Law Family Educational Trust

The Law Family Educational Trust (LFET) is a Charitable Trust established to sponsors the Laurus Trust, a Multi Academy Trust (MAT), headquartered in Cheadle Hulme, near Manchester. The MAT encompasses the 4-18 age range in primary, secondary and sixth form contexts across Greater Manchester.

Our aim is to help raise all-round educational attainment levels and eventually serve as a template for state school co-curricular activities nationwide. The approach is rooted in our belief that personal development and aspiration are promoted by participation in a whole range of activities, not just academic ones. We aim to sponsor the Laurus Trust’s Cornerstones programme which promotes the four areas of Academic Aspiration, Leadership and Service, Competition and Physical Endeavour, Culture, Creativity and Rhetoric.

Academic success alone is typically not sufficient for students to realise their aspirations. Broader character development is necessary if students are to access the best universities and careers and subsequently make the most of their opportunities. Every student should learn how to speak effectively and with confidence. By developing activities for which students have a particular propensity or interest they will become better motivated, more respected by their peers, more fully engaged in education, more likely to recognise their potential and more able to make a difference in the world.Visit the website

IMPROVING CHILDREN'S MENTAL HEALTH

Place2Be

Place2Be has been providing in-school emotional support to children and young people since 1994. Place2Be provides high-quality mental health services in schools and building confidence and knowledge in schools to promote a better understanding of mental health and wellbeing.

LFCF is sponsoring "The Law Family Salford Research Programme", to establish, support and develop a "proof of concept” in 20 primary schools in Salford, Greater Manchester. The multiple year programme will begin in September of 2022 and will provide a comprehensive range of “whole school services” designed to support and train pupils, teachers and parents. Key to the Salford programme is the measurement ("proof of concept") that will provide a data driven, empirical, demonstration of how intervention can benefit pupils, parents and teachers and also inform multiple stakeholders (including Government) on how to grow this vital, and often, neglected, sector.

PRO BONO ECONOMICS RECENTLY WORKED WITH PRISONERS' EDUCATION TRUST TO ESTIMATE THE IMPACT OF LONG-DISTANCE LEARNING ON RE-OFFENDING.

Pro Bono Economics

Pro Bono Economics (PBE) provides a free service to charities and social enterprises. Its main aim is to help organisations understand and improve the impact and value of their work. Set up in 2009 by Martin Brookes (Tomorrow's People) and Andy Haldane (Bank of England), PBE matches professional economists who want to use their skills to volunteer with charities. PBE has over 500 economists on its books and has helped almost 300 charities large and small, covering a wide range of issues including health, homelessness, education and sport.

In the autumn of 2020, Pro Bono Economics will launch The Law Family Commission on Civil Society. The Commission will undertake new research to examine how volunteering and the charitable sector can play a more important role in the economy, and address the lack of the inclusion of volunteering in gross domestic product. It will explore ideas on how civil society can deliver on its potential in the 2020s and how best to utilise civic society in Britain’s recovery from coronavirus.

Gus O’Donnell will chair the commission, made up of 17 commissioners that will draw on the expertise of leaders across charity, business, philanthropy and politics.Visit the website
