Description:

This amazing gourd was done by Bruce Micklewright. Here's what Diane Frederick had to say about it. "This is Bruce’s first Pine Needle weaving, created in and after, Vickie Echols’ class in Sequim (August 2019) via Debbie Cain, and the Gourdian Angels patch. Of all of the class members, he chose a spinner gourd to have as his handle instead of a bottle gourd with an easier waist to work from. As he had several attempts to get it to stand upright, he drilled 2 more attachment holes to anchor his thread from, and had to have his tension just right to securely start his weaving from the pointy end. Then he decided to weave an inverted lid! His very even stitching really impressed me, as well as his faux stone gourd carving, and spinner reflective design." The next meeting will be Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 7:00 pm. Please contact Lisa Libby if you plan to attend, so she can send you the information needed to connect to the Zoom meeting. Here is a link to the minutes of the previous meeting, July 22, 2020. The August meeting minutes should be out soon, but will be posted the on the website by next week. WSGS General Election News: The Washington State Gourd Society is soliciting volunteers to form a Nominating Committee for elections. The committee consists of at least 3 persons, and prepares a slate of nominees for the offices to be filled. A nominating committee is necessary because members don’t usually just volunteer for the positions, so phone calls will be needed to get some candidates. If no volunteers come forth, the president will appoint the committee. New officers are brought in at the October meeting to allow transition until the new term begins in January. Timeline: · Committee formed or assigned: September 9th · Candidates Presented at September 23rd Meeting at 7 pm PST · Voting via online ballot begins October 14 and closes October 21 at 7 pm PST A new Patch has formed in the South Puget Sound, called the Foothills Gourd Patch. They already have nine members so far! Check the Local Gourd Groups link on the menu, or click here for more information. WSGS Members: If you would like a photo of a gourd you have completed featured on the website, please send via email (not text please) to webmaster@wagourdsociety.org. If any WSGS patch members have news or photos to share in the newsletter, please send to Diane Frederick, Newsletter Editor. She would really appreciate your help with ideas for articles, photos, hints, or stories. Be on the lookout for gourds on TV, magazines, news, while your're shopping, or dining, etc... they can be anywhere! Keep your phone or camera ready to get a shot and send the photo via email (not text please) to webmaster@wagourdsociety.org. WSGS latest meeting minutes: July 22, 2020. New members can join at any time. How can you get a gourd featured on the website? Just send your photo(s) with a discription (as needed) of how you created it to Webmaster@wagourdsociety.org. WSGS Mission: The purpose of the Washington State Gourd Society (WSGS) is to promote interest, share ideas, learn from others, and teach to all who are interested in the culture, use, history, and craftsmanship of gourds. The WSGS was formed in October of 2007 by a small group of local gourd artists who wanted to promote the craft of gourding in Washington State. The Washington State Gourd Society does not discriminate on the basis of age, color, disability, education, financial status, height, marital status, national origin, political beliefs, religion, race, sex, sexual orientation, weight, or whether you craft in big, small, round, or skinny gourds; this applies to all our activities or educational opportunities.
