Description:

Resources and information for parents of children with cancer . . . by parents of children with cancer. The Ped-Onc Resource Center was created in 1998 as a web site for parents, friends, and families of children who have or had childhood cancer. The author and most of the contributors to this site were members of the ACOR pediatric cancer mailing lists: ped-onc, ped-onc-survivors, and ALL-kids. 2018 update January 2018: I downsized this ped-onc web site. Keeping links current is a constant problem, and many of the medical sections had become outdated. I am keeping the resource pages like survivorship clinics, scholarships, books, Make-A-Wish, cancer camps, and a few others. I am keeping the section on ALL (acute lymphoblastic leukemia). On the disease, treatment, and types of childhood cancers pages I mostly link to off-site information. Search engines have greatly improved since 1998, and parents are quite able to use search engines to find current, professional information on childhood cancers. The need for this ped-onc site has diminished, but I am hanging on to a bit of it in hopes it still has some use for parents searching for information. Information on Cancers Common childhood cancers: General information Common childhood cancers: Information specific to different types Acute lymphoblastic leukemia information (ALL), authored by myself. ALL is the childhood cancer I learned the most about, and most of the basic information is not out of date. I still update the bibliographies. Signs of childhood cancer. Causes of childhood cancers (and a subsection, causes of childhood leukemia). Family Support Online support for parents of children with cancer. Treatment Issues Treatments Clinical trials Medical procedures, chemotherapy, and radiation Blood counts Bone marrow/stem cell transplants The problems with teen cancer care Survivorship Issues Resources for childhood cancer survivors and for their parents.Childhood Cancer Statistics Childhood Cancer StatisticsLinks to Helpful Sites Choice Web Links is my annotated list of sites with good information for parents of children with cancer.
