BHSN Cyber EncountersStudents from BHSN attended the Cyber Encounters Cyber security workshop at Purdue University on Wednesday Nov 6th and they placed 3rd out of about twenty schools at the competition part of the event. Spell BowlBloomington North Spell Bowl, coached by Mr. Philbeck, won first place in their regional competition at Center Grove on November 4 to become one of 14 teams to advance to the state meet at Purdue University on November 16. This is the second consecutive year for BHSN to make the finals. Team members are (from L to R) Chandler Carter (volunteer proctor), Nathan Abdullah, Kai Anderson, Arpan Bose, Miles Saltsman, Steve Philbeck (coach), Olivia Kaiser, Hayden Powers, MacKenzie Carver, Roudra Chatterjea, Finn Champagne, Delia Bratton, and Courtney Arthur. After the final competition, the team will enjoy a trip to Triple XXX Family Restaurant to celebrate our trip to state (our other annual goal). Civil Rights History ClubWe saw so many things on the Civil Rights History Clubto Alabama this summer! 16th st Baptist Church, Kelly Ingram Park, Civil Rights Institute, 4th Avenue Business District (some of our boys got free haircuts at the barbershop while we listened to real life advice from a local man who bought them a giant bag of chicken wings) In Birmingham. In Selma we visited the Voting Rights Museum, had an interactive experience at the slavery museum, and walked across the Edmund Pettus Bridge. InMontgomery, we went to the Rosa Parks museum, the National Memorial for Peace and Justice, the Legacy Museum, hung out on the front porch of MLKJ s house, and spent some time sitting on the steps of the capital. In Memphis...the Lorraine Motel, and ended our trip with food at Central Barbecue, and a walk on Beale Street.Of course, the evening swims and hanging out together in the dorm was a blast too, and a nice way to recover after all the learning each day.The Bloomington chapter of Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America attendedthe National Leadership Conference inAnaheim, California Doria Day,a senior at BHSN, placed first in the occupational fashion construction competitive event, received a one-year scholarship to The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, and was awarded a BabyLock sewing machine. Ashleigh Heflin, also a senior, recievedthe silver medal in the senior category of interior design and free CAD software for her future design projects! BHSN Spell BowlBloomington North Spell Bowl will be meeting soon. Don't fear it. Free Online TutoringThe Indiana University School of Education is offering free online tutoring to students. All tutoring is completed through Zoom where computer screens are shared. Interested students schould click here to to sign up. Attendance ProceduresParents and guardians should call the attendance line voicemail to report an absence, late arrival or early dismissal. If requesting an early dismissal for your student, please allow at least 45 minutes for passes to be delivered.
