Eve Spring, PHR, Human Resources Director, our HR host and Jack Slaughter, CCM, CCE the Clubs General Manager/COO provided a great experience for all. It was very successful as over fifty individuals participated. Each year at this time, within the November/December issue of Club Management Perspectives, it has been customary for MCA to review its series of annual Symposiums. The Symposium experience is the sharing of information; problems and solutions amongst fellow professionals. It is a valued learning experience and an opportunity for participants to network and build on their relationships with peers throughout the club industry. In addition, through MCA’s alliance with Club Benchmarking, data is gathered which allows participants the opportunity to benchmark their clubs data with peers from similar type clubs within their “Peer Cluster” We believe there is real value and benefit in the comparisons of compensation and operational data. If 2016 was an airplane, we could describe the flight (year) as a bumpy ride. The flight begins great; then hits some turbulence; the air smooths out and then before we land more turbulence. The good news is we land safely and look forward to 2017. To summarize, our ride began with a great Human Resource Symposium; the Gated Community Club Symposium was canceled due to the threat of Hurricane Hermine; then held a very successful Great CC’s of the South Symposium in Birmingham, AL and concluded the year with our flagship Great CC’s of the Midwest Symposium having to be canceled due to scheduling conflicts. Due to two of the symposiums being canceled, we are unable to accurately display our annual financial comparisons as usually seen in this issue. Although it was a bumpy ride, we were again fortunate as our strategic partner Ray Cronin from Club Benchmarking attended the two symposiums and not only did he provide personalized statistical information geared to each of the symposium cluster groups, Ray provided an effective presentation and really got the participants thinking out-of-the-box as to the governance of their Club. MCA’s strategic alliance with Club Benchmarking continues to be a win-win for both companies. The partnership between Master Club Advisors and Club Benchmarking has provided our Symposium participants with several key benefits. To wit: • The data submitted for the Symposiums is the same as that for the CMAA annual survey – so you are “killing two birds with one stone." • Symposium participants who are annual subscribers to the Club Benchmarking service will be allowed access to benchmark against the clubs within the “Symposium Cluster Group” as they want throughout the year. MCA is looking forward to continuing our long and mutually beneficial relationship with Club Benchmarking and welcomes their expertise in providing improved information with reporting capabilities to our symposium participants.
