He is Professor of Cerebrovascular Neurosurgery at Macquarie University. Professor Morgan trained in Sydney and the Mayo Clinic. He was appointed the first full Professor in Neurosurgery of the University of Sydney in 1998 and the first Dean of Medicine at Macquarie University (2006-2010). Professor Morgan was the Vice President, Health and Medical development, at Macquarie University (2010-2014). Professor Morgan is an internationally recognised neurosurgeon for aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations and complex reconstruction of the arteries of the brain. He has operated on more cerebrovascular cases than any other neurosurgeon in Australia with more than 2,000 aneurysms and 700 arteriovenous malformations (AVMs). After serving for two years as a consultant neurosurgeon,he joined the department of neurosurgery in Sina Hospital at the TehranUniversity. He obtained his Master of Public health in 2003. During his 9 yearsacademic career at the Tehran University he was awarded the position ofClinical Associate Professor of Neurosurgery. In 2006 Dr Eftekhar migrated to Australia and undertook further Australasianneurosurgical experience in Royal Hobart Hospital, Sir Charles GairdnerHospital (Perth) and Dunedin Hospital (New Zealand). In 2009, he was admittedas a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He underwent subspecialty training inCerebrovascular Neurosurgery at Macquarie University in 2010. Dr Eftekhar haspublished over 30 peer-reviewed papers.
