Governor Beshear says his administration will be evaluating coronavirus case activity this weekend to see if there is a need to beef up restrictions.  During his briefing Friday, Beshear reported 797 new cases, the second highest count since March. “We are continuing to see an increase and a growth that we absolutely have to stop.  And we’ll be watching these very carefully through the weekend and if we do not see the numbers come down, we’re going to have both a series of recommendations and steps that we’ll need to take sometime early next week,” said Beshear. In Friday's coronavirus update Governor Andy Beshear announced 797 new cases of the virus, bringing the state’s total number of cases to 25,931. The governor announced 7 new deaths from the virus today. 19 more children under the age of five tested positive for coronavirus, including a one-month-old infant. Lexington has seen its largest one day count for coronavirus with Friday’s report of 100 additional cases.  Although there’s been some fluctuation, Fayette Health Department Commissioner Kraig Humbaugh says the central Kentucky community has experienced a steady increase in cases since mid-May. The Lexington Parks Advisory Board has approved a request to rename Cheapside Park downtown.  The matter will come before the city council when it returns from summer break in August. Mayor Linda Gorton’s office says the area adjacent to the Historic Courthouse would be renamed Henry A Tandy Centennial Park.  It says that step continues a phased-in approach to improve the public space.  As the coronavirus continues to spread rapidly throughout the U.S. and beyond, many are wondering: How on earth will this end? In an interview televised this week, President Trump reiterated his belief that sooner or later the virus will burn itself out. "I will be right eventually," the president told Fox News host Chris Wallace. "It's going to disappear, and I'll be right." Governor Beshear says he’s hoping to see the effects of a mandatory mask directive and asking Kentuckians who travel to out of state hot spots to quarantine by next week. In Thursday’s Team Kentucky update, Governor Andy Beshear announced 611 new cases of coronavirus and 7 new deaths. That brings the state’s total number of cases to 25,147. Of those, more than 23,000 are lab confirmed. The governor also announced 21 new cases of coronavirus found in children under 5 years old. Market manager Susan Warrell said their first days under the state’s recent mask mandate were a challenge, but shoppers have been understanding. “We had just a couple of people that came without masks. And I just stopped them and explained,” she said. “And they put the mask on and shopped at the market.”
