Turtle Rescue of Long Island A 501(c)3 Organization ~ all donations are tax deductable Turtle Rescue of Long Island, which is a 501(c)3 non-profitbecame incorporated in 2004, started by Julie Maguire and SteveMenikos in an effort to help the many turtles and tortoises whichbecome injured or are found ill. For many years we also took innon-native turtles and tortoises and adopted them to new homes.However over the years the rescue grew and so did the number ofturtles and tortoises that came in, forcing us to concentrate onjust taking in rehabs. At this time due to space, monetary andtime constraints we will only be taking in native turtles. The goal of Turtle Rescue of Long Island is to providereliable, up to date information on the care of turtles andtortoises as well as provide a haven for native turtles until theycan be released back to the wild. WE WILL CONTINUE TODO ALL OF THE REHABILITATION WORK ON THE NATIVE TURTLES, HOWEVERNO LONGER CAN ACCOMMODATE UNWANTED PETS. PLEASE CHECK WITH YOURLOCAL SHELTERS AND RESCUES FOR HELP WITH PLACEMENT. We take in many native turtles for rehabilitation. There arecases that can be anything from hit by car, illness, crueltycases, neglect and abandoned. Whenever possible all nativewildlife is returned to the wild as they should be, and in thecase of not being able to be released are adopted to permanenthomes. The Long Island Turtle Rescue is a small local rescue for turtles and tortoises, however any turtle or tortoise needing a home from anywhere in the states will never be turned away. We will do our best to place any turtle or tortoise which can no longer be kept for whatever reason. Many people buy a turtle or tortoise and know very little about their care and don’t realize how large or how long turtles and tortoises can live with proper care. Others just find they can no longer care for their turtle or tortoise and just want to find it a good home. Whichever the case, we hope to help find good homes for those that need them.
