Many of our projects involve designing new materials or tuning existing materials for applications relating to energy and the environment. We use the tools of statistical mechanics and quantum mechanics to tackle problems such as heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysis, adsorption, diffusion, and separation of fluids in nanoporous sorbents, quantum effects in adsorption and diffusion, and prediction of thermophysical properties from molecular-level information. Projects include: designing new materials for enhanced proton transport; capture and conversion of CO2 to value-added products; adsorption, transport, detection and destruction of toxic chemicals in multi-functional hybrid nanoporous materials; design of catalytic materials; designing functionalized nanoproous materials for water purification; and hydrogen storage. *The quote There's Plenty of Room at the Bottom comes from the title of a talk given by R.P.
