Utah’s Department of Health Reported just over 2,230 new COVID-19 cases Monday. Summit County saw 24 new cases, and last Monday - for comparison - Summit reported 30 new cases. And in Wasatch County, the health department reported 37 new cases, last Monday the county saw 45. Summit County’s seven-day average of positive laboratory tests is currently 21%, and about 29% of tests are coming back positive on average in Wasatch County. The average percent for positive test results in the state is just above 27%, which is up from Sunday’s average. The Department of Interior recently removed critical protections from the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.  The Migratory Bird Treaty Act was signed into law over a 100 years ago. The act bans killing, capturing, selling and trading migratory bird species without authorization from the US Fish and Wildlife Service. Utah’s Department of Health reported just over 2,560 new COVID-19 cases Sunday.  Summit County saw 41 new cases, and last Sunday - for comparison - Summit reported 10 new infections. The county's department of health reported 50 new cases on Friday, the highest single day total of new infections. And in Wasatch County, the health department reported 41 new cases, last Sunday the county saw 17. Wasatch County also reported its highest case count on Wednesday, with 73 new infections. A small plane made an emergency landing on I-80 near Jeremy Ranch Saturday night.  No one was injured. According to Agent Colton Freckleton with the Utah Department of Public Safety, the plane landed in the east bound lanes near mile marker 142 around 6:15pm. Two people were in the plane. They managed to push the aircraft to the shoulder of the road and out of traffic after landing on the highway.   Deer Valley officially kicked off its 2020-21 ski season Saturday. Although Deer Valley opened to the general public on Saturday, the resort held a special season pass holder session Friday afternoon to give loyal guests a bonus day on the slopes and to get out any last-minute kinks in their new COVID-19 protocols. Deer Valley’s health and safety protocols mirror those in place at neighboring Park City Mountain Resort, with masks mandatory and social distancing required in lift lines and on lifts themselves.
