Boone 150, the Town of Boone’s Sesquicentennial celebration, kicks off in January 2022 and continues throughout the year. Boone was officially incorporated on January 23, 1872. That makes for 150 years of history, community, and stories that need to be celebrated and shared - and there will be a lot of opportunities for everyone to get involved. Be looking out for Boone 150 events and offerings all throughout the year including concerts and performances, art and history exhibits, guided walking tours, parades and festivals, special publications, commemorative keepsakes, and more!

Antlers and Acorns: The Boone Songwriters Festival comes to Boone September 5-11, bringing together the wordsmiths, the weavers of chords and sharps and flats, the storytellers, the prophets, the liars. The town itself is the venue, the bars and restaurants and cafes and theatre the stage. Fans of words and music will walk the streets from one welcoming door to the next to hear their favorite singer/songwriter tell the stories of their songs, where they came from, where they went. It’s an intimate encounter, a weekend in the mountains, a walk in the woods.

Concerts in the Gardens

Held monthly in the beautiful backdrop of the Daniel Boone Native Gardens, this series features all black Appalachian artists. Live music will be accompanied by art, vending, beer, wine, food, and even garden tours. Limited seating is available, but guests are encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets. Tickets are available at the gate.

Boone Reads Together

The Watauga County Public Library is hosting a community reading program featuring the Books of Boone. This yearlong series includes book discussions, author talks, and special events. Put your reading glasses on and discover Boone anew through the lens of history and storytelling!

Every Family Has a Story

Every third Monday at 6:30 pm at the Watauga County Public Library come to share family stories with the High Country community. Storyteller Mr. John Ashburn leads these monthly get-togethers - give him a call for more information.

The Appalachian Theatre has an incredible lineup of concerts, performances, documentaries, and more throughout the year. Don’t miss an opportunity to enjoy a show at this unique historic venue.

King Street Farmers’ Market

Operating since 2017, the King Street Market is a spacious, outdoor market that runs every Tuesday from May through October. The King Street Market is designed with working families in mind to give them the perfect opportunity to shop local during the week. The market offer a wide array of local goods including produce, meats, flowers, honey, eggs, crafts, and more.

Watauga County Farmers’ Market

The 2022 season begins on April 2 and continues every Saturday through November from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at Daniel Boone Park, right in the heart of Boone. Since 1974, community members and visitors alike have appreciated the dozens of unique vendors offering fresh and locally-sourced produce, foods, flowers, jewelry, arts, crafts, and more. Throw in food trucks, live music, and a kids corner, and you’ve got a great experience for the whole family.

Indoor Concerts at the Jones House

The music moves to the Mazie Jones Gallery for the Indoor Concerts at the Jones House this fall. The Lonesome Ace Stringband brings that perfect blend of old-time and bluegrass inspired songs that everyone wants to hear. The Faux Paws play everything from traditional fiddle tunes to saxophone-infused love songs. Rakish encompasses everything there is to love about Scotch-Irish folk music. David Childers is a North Carolina singer-songwriter who writes and sings songs that audiences always connect with. Alice Gerrard is a multi-talented songwriter, vocalist, and instrumentalist whose pioneering efforts led to her induction into the Bluegrass Hall of Fame.

Boone BOO!

Join the Town of Boone for Boone BOO!, as the community and visitors are invited to stop by downtown Boone merchants for a safe, family-friendly trick-or-treating event. The stage will be set with a special Halloween music playlist streaming down King Street and larger-than-life Halloween inflatables lining the sidewalks. The central part of King Street will be closed (from Appalachian Street to Burrell Street) to accommodate trick-or-treaters and to make room for some surprise guests. For children with food allergy concerns, various businesses will also be handing out non-candy treats. Be sure to stop by the Jones House and the Watauga County Public Library for some additional silly and spooky fun!

Celebrate the holidays with the annual Town of Boone Holiday parade, which will take place on Saturday, December 10 at 2 p.m. Floats, cars, marchers, and performers will travel down King Street in downtown Boone decked out in their festive best!
