Art was the former program coordinator for the Army’s Warrior Adventure Quest Program at Fort Hood, TX, working with US soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.  Art continues to work with wounded veterans and their families using adventure for healing. He taught for 9 years in the Department of Health and Kinesiology, at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Art has been facilitating through ChallengeWorks at Texas A M for the past 18 years and he is a trainer for RopeWorks, Inc. where he helps train the next generation of challenge course facilitators.  He is a member of the National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA), Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT), American Alpine Club (AAC), Access Fund, American Mountain Guide Association (AMGA), and Texas Experiential Ropes Association (TERA); and is a graduate of the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) and the American Alpine Institute (AAI).Art earned his Superhero powers when he journeyed through a battle with leukemia 26 years ago.  This battle tested his physical and mental resilience as well as his faith in his early 20’s. Overcoming this diagnosis allowed him to see the importance of God, life and service to others.  He has experienced personal challenges on and off the trail, but it’s the personal relationships in his life and the lessons he has learned from those individual experiences that help shape and develop his philosophy.  As Ralph Waldo Emerson expressed, “What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” Outdoor adventure provides an opportunity for individuals to grow beyond their boundaries and experience their full potential…leading to a transformation of personal growth and discovery of the mind, body, and spirit.Art loves spending time with his wife, Maura, their two children, Alex and Daphne, and friends.  He, also, enjoys climbing, backpacking, paddling, running, swimming and mountain biking. We welcome Super Art as one of our Keynote Speakers.Art knows that many of us journey to find our inner Superhero as we journey through a difficult diagnosis or circumstance, but he recognizes that when we choose to empower others through our experiences and share the knowledge we have obtained then we activate an even greater level of power.  Join Art as he shares his journey and not only empowers you through his knowledge but will equip you with some of the tools he has used in his journey. JANA JONESJana Jones has over 30 years of experience working with young people in a variety of settings from Girl Scout camp counselor and camp director to public school teacher and mentor.  She enjoys working with and empowering individuals and groups to gain leadership and social skills by drawing on her Challenge Course training as well as her Myers-Briggs Type facilitation.  She holds a BS in Elementary Education from Texas Tech University. She lives in Buda, Texas with her two rescued 4-legged dog friends, Jake and Louie.  Jana’s Superhero journey?  It all began with Girl Scouts!  When she was hired to serve as a summer Assistant Camp Director many, many years ago, she was sent to a leadership training program which included challenges on a high ropes course!  She was hooked! This was also when she learned about this new organization called, Texas Experiential Ropes Association! Next came Lake Travis Middle school, where she created a course called, “Personal Leadership”, which was a required elective for all 7th graders!  It was based on Stephen Covey’s “7 Habits of Highly Effective People”.  She obtained a grant to build a low ropes course on the campus and obtain training for herself and other teachers. It was at Lake Travis Middle School that Jana began to find additional Superhero Powers! (above teaching middle school students which takes some serious super powers!)  She moved from LTISD to Austin ISD to have the honor to work full time with Lorenza Phillips, Sr. on the Frost Ropes Low and High Ropes Course for 5 years serving students of all ages. Her next major step was to design and direct, “The POWER Program”, a social skills program at Hays CISD/Special Education for the last 12 years to support elementary students, parents, teachers and administrators.  Her Girl Scout career continues to this day where she is now beginning her 16th summer as Camp Director at Mitre Peak Girl Scout Camp, located in the Davis Mountains.  This is when and where she feels she gets to use her Superhero powers the most! She is most proud to have seen many campers attend from their first nervous summer to now serving as counselors and leaders at her camp.  Along the way, she published a collection of camp memories, called “Camp Mitre Peak, the First Fifty Years”.  In her other spare time, under the business name of You Go G.I.R.L., Jana has been providing leadership programs specifically designed for girls and women for over 20 years throughout Texas and New Mexico.  She facilitates and provides leadership with a very dynamic and experiential approach to program delivery.Jana loves to travel and has visited many states and countries; some as personal vacations and many as a Girl Scout volunteer leader. She has travelled as a Girl Scout leader to Europe, Australia, Cyprus along with 7 other national events.  She believes travel outside of your borders helps you to better understand yourself and the world.  Regardless of your background, experiences or challenges, Jana confidently believes that there is a Superhero in each of us.  Jana will inspire conference attendees to find their passion and to draw out the inner superpower for the good of self and others.  Join Jana and share your Superhero journey or seek help in discovering and growing your inner Superhero. What to ExpectOur conferences are packed with traditions from past conferences like our FUNdraising silent auction (donate an item!), t-shirt exchange (bring a spare!), bonfire sing-alongs, special evening activities, along with new and unique events and workshops.  It s an exciting opportunity to learn new initiatives, network with other professionals, and continue to develop skills in experiential programming.  Make plans to attend our next conference!  See our schedule for more information.Register Online or On-siteWe offer multiple options for registration.  Early bird and regular online registration will SAVE YOU MONEY, but we accept on-site registrations as well.Online registration will begin September 1, 2019 and on-site registration will begin on March 26, 2020, at 7:00 pm and will continue throughout the conference.
