I'm a storyteller thrilled to be living during the greatest explosion in innovation in human history. A century from now, historians will be fascinated to look back and wonder what it was like to live during this era of such sweeping transformations in the ways we live, work, and create communities. The rise of the internet has democratized the flow of ideas and empowered entrepreneurs, citizens, students, activists, thinkers, creators, and workers. If you have an inspiration for a better way of doing things, you can now quickly and inexpensively share it with the world. And, if enough people gravitate to it, then you can start a business, bring an injustice to light, create an industry, change a way of thinking, or start a cultural phenomenon. That's the stuff I love to think about, write about, and talk about at industry events and in media appearances. As Editorial Director at CNET, I work as a journalist, editor, industry analyst, and business leader. Previously, I served as Global Editor in Chief of TechRepublicacross North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. For the past two decades, I’ve covered the innovations that have reimagined daily life in the 21st century. I’ve been thrilled to lead teams of journalists and digital content creators to tell big stories about this revolution. And, the best is still to come! We’re on the cusp of a tremendous set of disruptions and breakthroughs. I love learning and researching society-transforming ideas around sustainability, clean energy, transportation, electric vehicles, autonomous vehicles, robotics, artificial intelligence, big data, crowdfunding, microfinance, cryptocurrency, health wellness, genomics, and social justice. In my personal time, I love walking, taking photos, and listening to podcasts and audiobooks — and I treasure moments with my family above all things. I’m a Bahá’í, which gives me inspiration, hope for the future of humanity, and respect for people of different backgrounds and beliefs.Below are links to a few of my favorite stories I’ve written over the past two decades.Innovation storiesApple's first employee: The remarkable odyssey of Bill FernandezHow Israel is rewriting the future of cybersecurity and creating the next Silicon ValleyHow Apple Watch uncovered my toxic stress level, and helped me fix itWhen robots eliminate jobs, humans will find better things to do3D bioprinter to reproduce human organs, change the face of healthcare: The inside storyYes, Blockchain could reverse the course of civilization and upend the world's most powerful companiesLouisville to co-create a smart city with its citizen scientistsWho will have the courage to build the future again? Can Google survive its blind faith in the algorithm?Steve Jobs' 100-year legacy: Humanizing technologyIT's new role: Build a digital society worthy of our descendantsThe next decade in tech: Three defining forces to watch7 Chinese companies that will shape the future of the tech industry: My week in BeijingWhy free university 42 breaks all the rules for educating engineers, and is coming to the USApple Car: Two big factors open the door for a disruptoriPhone and Surface: The moment Apple and Microsoft divergedFour more industries about to be transformed by the InternetThe future of IT will be reduced to three kinds of jobsIf you want to innovate like Da Vinci, education is overratedFive future technologies I can't wait forFord is now a 'personal mobility' company: How the comeback kids are riding tech to a new destinyHow to kill innovation, in five easy stepsThe Tale of Steve Jobs and the Five DragonsHow Google became the George Washington of the InternetBook: Follow the GeeksIn 2016, I co-authored Follow the Geeks, a book that profiles 10 digital innovators and offers an inside look at how they forged a new path for the future of work.
