Gypsy GenealogyEric Trudgill and Anne-Marie Ford have spent several years researching the Gypsy families specific to Anne s ancestry and many others besides. They have been regular contributors to the Romany and Traveller Family History Society s journal, Romany Routes, and Eric conceived, writes and edits the Society s on-going series of booklets on Famous Romany Families.They ve created this web-site to supplement the Society s publications and to put more of their work into the public domain. There will be at least two new articles on the first Monday of each month, the previous ones being archived for future site-users. One article will trace a particular British Gypsy family from about 1750, sometimes approaching, but never for privacy reasons extending beyond, the beginning of the 20th century. Others, reflecting Eric s and Anne s academic past (both have Ph Ds) will focus on methodology, offering tips on how to practise Gypsy genealogy, what information to look for, how to use it, what traps to avoid, and on social history, using genealogy to explore how Britain s social conditions and attitudes shaped the lives and everyday experience of its Gypsy community.
