New Chinese Studies Newsletter Published 28 July 2020 A new issue of the Chinese Studies Newsletter has just been published. Edited by PhD Candidate Kelsey Granger, the newsletter contains a host of fascinating articles about how studying Chinese at Cambridge has been transformed in the last few months; surely the strangest any of us have known! Khaled Fahmy elected Fellow of the British Academy 28 July 2020 Everyone at the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies congratulates our colleague, Professor Khaled Fahmy, on his recent election as Fellow of the British Academy. Prof. Fahmy joins colleagues, Professors Khan, Sterckx and van de Ven, as a Fellow of the Academy and we all send him our warmest congratulations for this impressive achievement. Virtual Open Days in September, 2020 14 July 2020 Due to the effects of the coronovirus pandemic, the University will be hosting Open Days virtually until further notice. Faculty Closure Due to COVID-19 Monday, 23 March, 2020 (All day) to Monday, 31 August, 2020 (All day) Virtual Open Days - September, 2020 Thursday, 17 September, 2020 (All day) to Friday, 18 September, 2020 (All day) Grammar of Biblical Hebrew This project aims to produce a grammar of Biblical Hebrew that will bring together descriptions of all the known traditions of the language. It will include the traditions that are reflected by the medieval Masoretic manuscripts, with various vocalization traditions, and also the traditions found in Hebrew Bible manuscripts from Qumran, transcriptions of Biblical Hebrew from antiquity to the Middle Ages, and various oral reading traditions of Biblical Hebrew that have survived to modern times, including the Jewish oral traditions and the Samaritan tradition.
