To join you just need to be a regular check in there is no membership any one can be a FROG ...but .... if you want to be certified that's a different story. You must be approved by the board of governors then you will receive a suitable for framing slab of paper with your name on it.It is hard to keep up with all the Green Frogs. It has been brought to my attention that some Hams have complained about the picture to the right (The Green Frog Hats) and that a few of the Greenfrogs are making a profet from these hats. When I put this site up, I did it out of my own pocket and asked nobody for nothing. Just like the Hams selling the hats above. They sell 4 and gave away the 5th. This is NOT a commerical website and will never be as long as I am paying for it. I do this for the fun of it and because I enjoy it. They must bask in the sun to get warm and cool off in the shade, or under the water. Amphibians, reptiles and insects are ectotherms. During the spring, you may remember seeing many tadpoles in a pond or stream. Then in the summer the tadpoles grow arms and legs; they turn into a frog. Where exactly do the frogs go in the winter? I don't think anyone has seen a frog jumping around in the frigid winter months, especially in the northern United States. Frogs are ectotherms and because they have to keep themselves warm, the winter would be especially tragic for them. Spring peepers, wood frogs, green frogs and others bury themselves in the mud around a wetland, such as a pond or stream. The interesting fact about frogs is that because they only bury themselves about an inch deep, some species of frogs actually freeze into a solid state. How do they stay alive, though? Well, they have special components in their body that actually act as antifreeze. Their body converts glycogen into glucose, which keeps the frog alive while it's frozen solid. When the ground becomes warm again in spring, the frogs thaw-out and remain active until winter comes around again! The First Green Frog was give to Hank WA4FGC by K4RUQ Bill back in the 1960’s because he had a big mouth and talked a lot, however Roy Hopkins, K4MUW Started The Green Frog Net about 1975 and issued the first 30 certificates. Roy Hopkins became a silent key in January 1983 and willed the Green frogs to Dorsey. Roy’s wife Delores brought the Green Frogs records to Dorsey in October 1, 1996. Dorsey had run the net until 2003 then WW4DB Don ran it for a while then WA4JRC Bobby ran it and on November 2003 K4JDJ Bob took over and has been Net Control since.
