Focusing on 5 key characteristics of effective teams, our workshop explores the management, teamwork and problem solving skills that saw Shackleton’s Endurance expedition “Triumph against all odds”. After reading the book, Who Was Ernest Shackleton by James Buckley Jr., our class thoroughly enjoyed the virtual tour of the Shackleton Exhibition! Mr. O Reilly was engaging and willing to answer our students many questions. The children remarked that it felt like they were reliving the Endurance Expedition! Loiacono Village Elementary School, Skillman, NJ Sir Ernest Shackleton was born in Kilkea, Co Kildare, an hour west of Dublin. He resided there until he moved to London with his family at the age of 10. At 16, Shackleton left school to join the Merchant Navy where he developed a love for adventure. Although Shackleton was a well-accomplished Antarctic explorer, his greatest challenge was yet to unfold during the Endurance Expedition of 1914. If you are interested in how a leader can be responsible for saving the lives of his crew in the face of impossible odds, this is a great place to learn. Well done. Story of an incredible person! Shackleton was a true leader and man. The exhibition and the photos are a must see when in Dublin. The man at the exhibit had such knowledge of him and the expeditions. The young man who was our guide through the Exhibition was excellent; he brought the whole Shackleton story to life. Would unreservedly recommend. I and my family truly enjoyed this exhibition while on visit in Ireland. Very well put together and a great introduction from the young man at reception. I had read the book by Shackleton and seen the film by Hurley so have already an experience of the story. This just added to the knowledge of the whole adventure. Thanks a lot for the good works! The photos are breathtaking, with good interpretive panels and a few short videos, plus I got a personal introduction/talk from a friendly staff member named Donal.This exhibit is not to be missed if you are interested in history.
