Nothing in biology makes sense except in the light of evolution. -- Theodosius Dobzhansky The Darwinian Sciences Cluster at the University of Chicago houses researchers and students who study various aspects of biology from an evolutionary perspective. The Cluster contains two departments (Ecology Evolution and Organismal Biology Anatomy) where faculty have primary appointments, and an interdisciplinary committee (Committee on Evolutionary Biology) with associated faculty from all divisions at the University, plus Argonne National Lab, Chicago Botanic Garden, the Field Museum of Natural History, and Lincoln Park Zoo. Our faculty are renowned for their contributions to the fields of evolutionary theory, genetics, paleontology, development, vertebrate morphology, behavior, ecology, phylogenetics, mathematical modeling, and biomechanics. The Cluster is part of the Biological Sciences Division and contains three graduate programs (Committee on Evolutionary Biology, Ecology Evolution, and Integrative Biology) that are consistently rated among the very best in the country.
