Nap is a console napster client written by Kevin Sullivan. It runs onLinux, OpenBSD, and other systems. Current releases of nap, such as1.5.4, are very stable. They can run for weeks at a time withoutcrashing or user intervention.Brief HistoryNap, writtin by Kevin Sullivan sometime in 1999, was one of the firstnapster clients besides Shawn Fanning's original Windows client. Itwas also the first client that ran on linux. Kevin learned much aboutthe inner workings of the napster protocol by collaborating withJordan Ritter, who was one of the co-founders of Napster and its ChiefServer Architect at the time.I took over the development of nap in February 2001. First I postedpatches, but soon the patches became so long that I started makingreleases. A lot of features were added, and some existing onesredesigned, to make nap more stable, user-friendly, and reliable.However, the original "look and feel" has been preserved. Probablynap is one of the most robust napster clients for linux today. You can always run nap specifying the server(s) you want to connect toon the command line, e.g. like this:nap -r -s 80.136.215.223:7777 -s 82.69.123.66:3456 -s 213.189.24.113:8885The "-r" is for telling nap to keep trying the servers until it isconnected. Usually the servers are pretty full, so it may take sometime to connect to one.
