How We Serve the communityKerala Association of Greater Washington (KAGW) is the pre-eminent organization for Malayalees (Malayalam speaking people or the people from the South Indian state of Kerala) in Washington metro area serving them for more than 40 years. It has served as the bedrock for all types of arts, cultural and literary activities for Keralites in this area. Many outstanding individuals and leaders in the community have been associated with this august association in a variety of roles and capacities. Its defining identity is its existence as a stepping stone for many aspiring artists and leaders in the community.KAGW is a registered non-profit organization exempt from taxes and certified per the federal regulations for non-profits as a 501(c) (3) organization. KAGW provides a forum for its members to meet and exchange views and to foster a spirit of friendship, goodwill, and understanding. The primary and distinguishing purpose of a cultural heritage organization like KAGW is to bind the community together by promoting and preserving its identity, traditions, and values. By providing public programs through which cultural heritage can be shared, KAGW is a leader in building bridges between various cultural groups and the larger community. KAGW is committed to serving the community in this way, through its far-reaching programs and endeavors. താങ്ങും തണലും is a new long term KAGW charity project to assist financially struggling cancer patients in Kerala and their dependents. Assistance also includes support for children to continue with their studies and realize their dreams. KAGW is working with known and reputable partner organizations in Kerala to identify beneficiaries and efficiently disburse the funds. Contributions can be made by clicking the 'Donate' button below or in person at KAGW events. All contributions are tax deductible. Please join us to save a life and see a smile! Talent Time is a multi-day cultural, art and literary competition for tiny tots to youth and adults held in the Washington D.C region. It has come a long way from being a one-day event with under 100 participants and around 15 competitions to now over 600 participants, 29 competitions across 4 age categories held in a span of 3 days during the months of March – April. Talent Time is an excellent platform made possible by KAGW committee and volunteers to explore and display ones creative, intellectual and artistic aptitude. Participation helps build confidence and interpersonal skills through collaboration and engagement while fostering a sense of belonging and togetherness within the community. Several months of planning and preparation, countless dedicated volunteer hours, hard work and sincere contribution from both kids and parents make Talent time a successful one every year! The registration for the event is open to anyone of Indian origin from North American region. Reel Deal also is committed to train the next generation of film makers and have a junior category for students up to 12th grade.Originally started as short film making competition by KAGW in 2013, we have matured as one of the most celebrated premier film festivals for independent and primarily, experimental film-makers to showcase their work.
