I had done an entry refresh back in the spring of 2016 and a few things about it were never quite right.  Sure, the 2016 changes were a big upgrade from where it started (befores here, 2016 refresh here) but you know how you can “finish” a room yet it still doesn’t feel how you want it to feel?  Sometimes it s just because the space is new and takes some getting used to but other times it is clear that mistakes were made and tweaks still need to happen.  And really, isn’t that normal for us non-designer folk?  While I love homes, interiors, and design my house is where I learn and make so many mistakes along the way.  So. Many. Mistakes.  But isn’t one of the benefits of not being a pro that we have the luxury of making mistakes, changing things up, and tweaking things over time, rather than doing a single design for a space that is supposed to be perfect on the first try?  At least I’m aiming for that approach these days, rather than all the self-induced and truly ridiculous pressure to be perfect the first time around.So applying this to our entry, after living with the space for a while I started making some changes over the past few months.  None of the changes are dramatically different but all together they add up to a space that is much more in line with the rest of our house and much more like us. I already shared on Instagram one of the biggest changes to the space (thanks to your votes on an Instagram poll!) which was to swap the locations of our bench and entry table.  Why did I not think of this before.  Mistake!  Now when you walk through the front door the table is on the left of the space and the bench is straight ahead.  The table looks so much better on the large wall and the mirror height and size seems so much more appropriate over the table rather than floating over the bench.  And the bench on the stairwell wall allows more of the board and batten treatment to be visible.  Double win. Probably the change I’m happiest about in the entry is our new rug.  I’ve been eyeing this round jute rug from Serena Lily for ages and finally got it for our entry.  I’m not one to switch out large items like rugs for no good reason but we just got to the point where we couldn’t live with our old rug any longer.  It was a large square jute rug which shed and shed.  I have owned plenty of jute rugs and that one was the worst in terms of shedding.  So much fuzz hanging out on our dark floors!  And while that was my biggest gripe, I couldn’t ignore the fact that the kids hated sitting on the floor to put on shoes because the rug left fibers all over their pants.  Apparently that is not a cool look for the elementary school set.  We finally said enough is enough and it was time to make a change. Now I really love the style of our new rug – stripes! circles! jute!  And it really just makes the space more interesting while still brightening it up.  Best part is, it is super soft and no shedding whatsoever.  It is so hard when making a rug purchase online so I’m super happy this new rug is working out even better than expected.  Worth the switch for sure. Other than the rug, the only other big-ish change is the bench.  We had an old bamboo bench which just wasn’t really us and never quite worked.  So I ditched it and stole this bench from our guest room.  We can appreciate it so much more in this space rather than the guest room, where it is hardly ever seen.  I’m a big fan of making your favorite pieces work for you rather than having them hang in unused spaces, so I consider this a win.  It may not stay here forever but it sure is doing the job now.Aside from those larger changes, the rest was all accessories.  I shopped our house but also added in a few new inexpensive finds, which will be easy to use in the entry or move throughout the house as I want a change.
