French History is an international forum for major new articles on the entire range of French history from the early middle ages to the twenty-first century. As well as individual submissions, we welcome suggestions for special issues on important themes. The French History Article Prize The Prize The prize is open to historians whose work has been published in the journal, and who are within 15 years of submission of their doctorate at the time of submission of their article. The prize is designed to promote and acknowledge outstanding work from French history scholars early in their career, whatever their nationality. Social Rights in French History Special Issue This new Special Issueexamines the long and largely neglected history of social rights in France. Social rights - notably to food, work and education - are often thought of as twentieth-century inventions, as socialist-inspired additions to the civil and political rights of the eighteenth century. But social rights emerged in 1789 and support for them has come not only from socialists but from liberals, republicans and Catholics as well.
