Welcome to the site that is all about my trip and job in Japan.

Taken from Kyodo News:
"TOKYO — The first snowfall of the season for Tokyo and the surrounding Kanto region, experienced by the area Saturday, continued to disrupt air, railroad and expressway traffic Sunday. "

It always makes me smile when a litle snow is the cause of fear and wonder in the eyes of non snow dwellers everywhere. :)

Well there's another exciting episode of stuff thats happening in Japan. Tune in next time for more fantastic tales from Japan!!

Japanese Phrase: Netsu ga arundesu!
pronounced: "net-sue ga a-rune-des"

English Translation: My Bowels will soon release!

Heya Everybody,

Here's a little update from Japanland. I finnally got my Gaijin card which means I can finally begin the process of getting my own apartment.

I also just spent the last week training for a second job at a company called Gabba. It's another English school chain kind of like the one I was working for my first year in Japan. It's a pretty sweet gig. I can make my own schedule and it's only about 20 minutes from where I stay at the moment. Here's a pic we took in Tokyo station, it's all of us after our last real training day.

I've had someone, who shall remain nameless, who has been complaining about me repeating my Japanese phrases. For convenince sake lets call this person Mr. Elliot Marshall.
Since Mr. Elliot Marshall has been so adament I have a brand new phrase for everyone.....

Japanese Phrase: Omiya IQ Nidaro!
pronounced: "O-my-ah IQ Knee-da-row"

English Translation: Your IQ is two!

Keep it real my Homies and Homettes,
Andrew

I'm back. I thought I would do something different today and give you a little Japanese news....

"No-cost childbirth mulled to boost population
The government will consider introducing a system to bear all costs for childbirth -- including hospitalization for mothers -- in a bid to encourage young couples to have more kids, a government minister said Friday."
*taken from japantimes.com*

This all stems from the fact that the Japanese population is decreasing dramaticaly. In the next 45 years it's estimated that the population will decrease by 27 Million.

Well there ya go, something a little differecnt today. :)
Hope you enjoyed the news.

I'll leave you with the Japanese phrase of the day:
Nama Beeru Futatsu Onigashimasu
In English:
2 Draft Beers please

Heya everybody!

Not much new on the front 'o' Andrew. I'm a little under the weather at the moment and I am spending my weekend resting up.
I don't have the dreaded Andrew cough yet so I am trying to take it very easy and rest up to prevent the scourge of crowded Japanese trains from returning to plauge us all!

Unfortunatly this couldn't have happened at a worse time. I have a new job that I am going to attend training for this coming week. This is in addition to my current teaching job. So after this weekend there will be no more resting for me. :(

Well there's a quick little update before I catch myself some Z's

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NON DENOMINATIONAL FESTIVITY DAY TO ALL!!!

I thought maybe it was about time I gave everyone a little update on whats going on in the land we call Japan.

Well it's official. I am now the proud owner of a little piece of paper with the word Visa on it. No more sneaking around collecting money on street corners with my one man spoken word Hip Hop tributes. I can now obtain a legal and fullfilling position in the teaching or IT field.

This also means that everyone, once again, has an open invitation to come to Japan, stay in my apartment (which I don't have yet, but will soon) and drink my booze (which I do have). :)

I know I say this every single post.... but I will try (not too hard mind you) to update a little more frequently.

I will leave you all with a little Christmas gift.... 3 photo's of Christmas in Japan...

The only day of real snow we have had so far....

A monkey who performs on the street during christmas....

A christmas tree in Azimino station....

Well time for me to go. See you all later!

Hey hey hey!

Just a quick one today. I'll start off with some more Birthday wish's...

Grandpa - Happy Birthday! As one of the most computer literate people out of perhaps all of the Aitkens and Bachmiers in your age bracket, I am confident that this message will reach you safely! :) Have an excellent Birthday and keep on impressing us with everything you do!

Mr. Konrad - Happy Birthday. Don't cause too much trouble. Especially since I'm not there and can't join in on aforementioned trouble! :)

Wow it's been a busy month for birthdays and if I missed anyone’s birthday this month I apologize.

As for Japan not a whole lot has been happening.
Today I am about to pop into a local restaurant for a cool refreshing malt beverage. I have met the owner on the street twice now and he is very adamant on me checking out his fancy shmancy restaurant. So I am going to pop in for a quick beer or two and then I am off to Kawasaki to visit a friend for lunch.
I know, not quite as exciting as last time but c'mon I'm on a limited budget here. :)

Talk to you all soon,
Andrew

Hi Everybody!!!

I know its been a while and that I am slowly reverting back to my customary non-posting ways. For that I apologize. Before I get started on a story, which would no doubt reside in the genre of Adventure. I have a few Birthday wish's to send out...

Jane - Happy Birthday, I hope you had a good one and that it was accompanied with the finest food and wine. :)

Smitty - Happy Birthday, I hope packs of ravenous dogs find your ill begotten gains and force you to use them to fly to Japan. Congrats on the spooky amount of winning buddy!

Tara - Happy Birthday, I hope the new house is awesome and that you have had time to teach Tyson to paint, so you don't have to. :)

Alright now that all the mushy stuff is out of the way. Here is what I have been up to....
I had a job interview and it went really well. I won't be able to tell for certain until I hear back from those wacky cats in the government. If I do get the job it would be teaching English again *groan* but this time for a private school that only deals with corporate contracts.
Ok, now on to the more interesting recap along with pictures....

This is what I was doing on the weekend! I know it's not the best picture so I included a picture from another festival as well.

What you do is you arrive at the starting shrine and drink a couple beers or Sake. Then you pick up the portable shrine which weighs more than a compact car and place it on your shoulders. Of course it would be too easy to do this and simply walk around the town. Once it’s up there you have to jump up and down with it on your shoulders while pushing against the people whose job it is to push you back the way you came. It's very hard to explain, but very cool to take part in.
Everyone is yelling and the townspeople you go by are all cheering you on.

It starts around 8:00 in the morning and finish's about 7:00 at night. Some of these crazy bastards carried it all day, but most people take turns coming in and out from carrying it.
Once we finished and dropped it back off at the shrine we were treated to free sushi and beer by the town. Everyone there was really cool. Even after the town center closed we found a lot of cool people to drink with in the street.

Well there ya go, another exciting look into what surely will be made into a TV movie someday!
