2022 Representative Meeting - November 18-19 - Online - All SCYM Friends are Invited

SCYM RepresentativeMeeting will be held online again this year, from Friday evening, November 18 through Saturday evening, November 19, 2022. Closing worship will be held on Saturday evening to allow participants to attend their own monthly meeting worship on Sunday morning. More specific times and an agenda will be sent out at a future date, along with the Zoom link.

Monthly meetings may choose to meet together in person at their meeting house or other location to participate in the online RM as a group. This may allow us to have some sense of being together in person,while still allowing as many people as possible to participate without the difficulty of long-distance travel fora shortweekend. The YM planning team is also looking at other ways to enjoy fellowship during our time together at RM.

All SCYM Friends are invited to participate in Representative Meeting, especially closing worship on Saturday evening. It was suggested that MMs talk about RMs to create awareness of the nature and function of RM among those Friends who may not have attended in the past - perhaps even hold a forum about it. We look forward to seeing Friends there!

Becoming the Quakers the World Needs

Julie Harlow, Davis Friends Meeting, writes:

Dear Friends everywhere,

John Lennon asked us to “Imagine all the people living life in peace”
I am asking you to imagine Friends all around the globe, extending their hands to each other, making a human rainbow chain touching every land, as we “stand still in that power that brings peace (George Fox)”.
I am inviting you to participate with Friends World Committee for Consultation (FWCC) in realizing such a vision on World Quaker Day, 2 Oct. and in celebrating the diversity and geographical reach of Quakers. The Daily International Meeting for Worship for Peace will be expanded to welcome up to 1000 participants and extended to 90 minutes.

Holding SCYM Friends in the Light

Good News from Tom Ivash:
Dear Friends,
First off I want to thank everyone that held me in the Light. I'm finally out of the hospital and rehab center. I'm staying with one of my sisters while doing home patient rehab. Slow progress but progress non the less.
A Cliff's note version of what happened to me. First I went into the hospital for bloated prostate. There it was discovered that I had a severe case of UTI. During the treatment for this, the Cardiologist noticed my heart had gotten weaker. It was recommended to install a heart pump.
During this surgery, I had complications starting with heart failure leading to Kidney failure. They sedated me for 3 weeks. As the Doctors were treating these problems, I got pneumonia. Great!!! With some Blessings I survived all of these complications.

Gerald Jimmy Jr. is a member of Fort Worth Monthly Meeting and former clerk of SCYM. He is at peace after a long illness.His gentle spirit will live on in the memories of many SCYM Friends.

We write to share with you an “Urgent Call to the Religious Society of Friends” concerning the current extensive threats to our U.S. democracy. We are led to speak out against the lies, extremist movements, and anti-democratic actions that are the opposite of our Quaker understandings of integrity and Truth.This Call was prepared by a group of nineteen Friends.

We encourage your prayerful discernment of this “Urgent Call” and ask you as individuals, monthly meetings, yearly meetings, and Friends organizations to consider how you might be called to act with integrity in response to these concerns.
