Our Canadian Jazz Festival returns for four days of live music in some of Calgary’s most intimate, safe, and fun venues.

The headliners for this year’s Festival include some of the greatest Canadian jazz musicians playing right now, banded together in jazz supergroups like CODE Quartet and The Ostara Project. Kris Davis shares a double-bill on Friday night while our legendary JazzWalk returns on Sunday with free music for everyone.

Canadian Pianist-composer Kris Davis was voted pianist of the year in the 2020 Downbeat Critics Poll and in the 2019 Jazz Times Critics Poll. Central Library

The Ostara Project, spear-headed by award-winning jazz musicians Jodi Proznick and Amanda Tosoff of Music Arts Collective, showcases the strength and creativity of Canadian women in jazz. Membership is fluid and what remains constant is that Ostara artists are all top-tier musicians, composers and bandleaders who reflect the geographical, cultural and creative diversity of Canada’s musical landscape.

A Quartet is featured on the third Thursday of every month. BuckingJam Palace

The Gentiane MG trio is performing at BuckingJam Palace one week after the launch of their new album, Walls Made of Glass.  The award-wiinning group recently performed to an enthusiastic audience as part of a Quebec showcase at Jazzahead in Bremen, Germany.  MG’s compositions reflect her early development as a classical pianist as well as her background as a jazz pianist, incorporating the aesthetics of impressionism with the improvisational approach and rhythmic sensibility of contemporary jazz.
